I hope not. Torture porn is not scary.
It can be gross, depending on the style, but it isn't scary. It's awkward and boring. There is a huge difference between being grossed out and being frightened.
Ghosts are frightening if done right. Torture porn is no more "terrifying" than a documentary on the holocaust. It's just depressing and sometimes anger inducing.
Its called American HORROR Story, not American SCARY Story. Everything that happened last night certainly fits the bill for horror.
    Dude, its Beacon Hills.

you know people have different ideas of horror, right?
its not called American Torture Story or American Gore Story either..
and I think more people like suspenseful horror relying on atmosphere and scares, like The Shining than the gory, disgusting, Cannibal Holocaust-like, even if both of them fall into the category of horror.

Do you happen to have polls and data to backup this claim?
Less than forget. But more than begun.

I really think so. I know fans seem to be blowing their collective load over last night's episode, but frankly I think it was pretty lame. There's nowhere left for the show to go but to systematically and brutally killing off the leads one by one while they stand around screaming. Last night's episode in my opinion was a smattering of random disgusting scenes thrown together to petrify the viewer and fans are eating it up because zomg it's so scary! but there's absolutely zero character development going on at all.

Same thing whiners are complaining about the Walking Dead after the premiere episode.

From the preview, it looked like Lee still had both of her legs. I could be mistaken, but that's what it looked like when she was talking to that one hillbilly about how he knew about the show. So I'm thinking that the old hag is just freaking out Not-Shelby (I can't remember her name) and Not-Lee (also can't remember her name) and that Lee is going to convince hillbilly boy to let her go (or trick him or whatever but still get away). She will also help Not-Shelby and Not-Lee get free and head back to the house where they will find Shelby and Not-Matt (again, don't remember his name). Meanwhile, Gaga will bring Matt back to life because she is a witch in the same line as the witches from Coven. I think Matt will be the one to survive or, if they don't count him as surviving since he is already dead (even though I think Gags is going to be bringing him back), I think Lee will be the one who survives and might or might not be blamed for everyone else's death.
Or, it could just be 3 more episodes of cutting off limbs and feeding them to people while poking them with hot pokers. Neither will surprise me. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked to find out that all of this happened in Matt's dream as he sits in a coma in the hospital after getting knocked out in the first episode.
ETA: I went back and watched the preview again and her leg is DEFINITELY still there. If you watch the preview here:
Fast forward to the 17 second mark and pause it. You can clearly see her leg is still attached.

I think they just cut strips from her thigh. Still gross and disturbing.

Not true. Open heart surgery is pretty gross but it is not horror. Meat rendering is very gross too but it is not horror either.

I think you need to educate yourself. Poe was a horror novelist. Hitchcock is considered horror (and, he is credited with the subgenre that is Slash due to his work with Psycho, by the way). Rosemary's Baby is a movie in the horror genre. Horror is classified simply as preying upon our most primal fears. Sometimes, gore is involved; however, that is what it needs to rely on. instead, it should deal with the fear that goes along with that gore.

When do haunted house/slasher movies have much of a plot other than origin story and possibly who the killer is (if it's real people slasher and not Friday the Thirteenth or something)?
