IDK Artery blood comes out at around 40 mph from a wound.

Still, that was some Quientin Tarantino level gratuitousness.

Yes it would if it was coming out of an artery. I'm a nurse and I've seen it. Not to be gross, but I once had a trauma patient that came out of surgery and had an artery blow. Blood was actually hitting the ceiling! I had to grab a towel and hold pressure on it as hard as I could and scream for help. One of the scariest moments of my entire career.

Ugh, you sound like my Mom now. But it's still something only doctors and nurses are usually privy to. To people who don't work in that field, it looks like an 80's overdone bloody horror flick.

Hahayou're right, it was a VERY bloody episode. The only thing that honestly looked fake about the blood to me was that pool of blood where Rory's body had been. It was too perfect. It had been there long enough to have been congealed by that point. And when Dominick kneeled down and said it didn't smell like corn syrup, I actually LOL'dif that had been REAL blood, trust me, they all would have been gagging from the smell!
Same thing when the ladies found Sidney and the other two crew members laying out there in the woodshow long had they been there, like 24 hours already? It was like the next night after they'd been killed. They would have STANK UP the place by then. But no, those ditzes were poking at them and trying to wake them up? Okaaaay

The blood in that scene only needed to be noted, it didn't have to look text book. It was more about the discovery and them believing it was fake. at that moment WE knew it was real.
Plus, this is AHS, not a documentary. In horror movies and shows they rarely reacts to the smell of a corpse unless the director finds that detail necessary. Lol

                  I agree, sjzaz.
Arterial spray was accurate, the amount of intestine was close enough (the amount of "guts" a human holds in their body is staggering) but the corpses would have stunk, been covered in maggots, and would not have been recognizable outdoors after 24 hours.
Especially with the animals getting to them, even deer will munch on a fresh carcass given the opportunity.
The shoulder cut on Shelby was another problem. You're not gonna have much swing with a severed supraspinatus. Definitely not enough to crush a skull.

I know no one likes to see it, especially me, but they should have been vomiting from the smell and the pus and maggots. Oh god, I can't even think about it or I'm gonna be sick. And you're absolutely right about Rory's blood too. All looked a little too clean, and they also should have been hurling. Ok, I'm done. Yeesh!

Yes, but would that happen in a haunted house or forest where everything is being manipulated by supernatural beings. This isn't normal circumstances. This is the same place where people have been cut up strung up in trees and strung up and burnt with no one hearing or smelling anything. This ain't Forensic Files. Lol

What we are seeing is reality, but it's in a horror comedy universe. The blood is sometimes over the top, the characters are sometimes hilarious in these serious situations. "I think he's dead!" "YOU THINK?!" "I'm not American! I'm not used to this carnage!". And sometimes they are over-the-top like Agnes and Sidney. I think it works.
