That first exchange between Kathy and Cheyanne emphasized the enormous gap in talent.
She can be a touch over the top as the butcher, but in quieter scenes she is so nuanced and impressive.
I normally regard Sarah Paulson as a fine actor also, but that accent was appalling. -

Kathy Bates has played a ton of different roles. She's won a ton of awards. As an actress, I'm sure she is LOVING being a part of this show. Look at all the different parts she has gotten and the critical reception. It's campy yes. But we all know there is nothing campy about her.
