Seriously, did anyone care for their relationship? I mean I root for a non-hoollywoodian ending, Jesse and Zibby not ending up together, but this Ana character did not make me feel that this was the way to go, she was just an excuse for an ending. In my head, they would break up after a short period and Jesse would try to reconnect with the perpetual romantic love game.

I didn't think Jesse's ending up with Ana was a cop-out but, I did find it sad. Sad because I got the impression he was settling for someone who was somewhat like Zibby but more "appropriate".
I may have read more into this than was meant by the screenwriter/director but in that faraway look in Jesse's eyes at the end when he was cuddling with Ana on the couch -I saw him thinking wistfully about Zibby. -

Hmmm Its a tough one knowing what this film is really saying, if he liked Zibby so much why did he sleep with his old professor I just don't understand why he did that. She was probably 16 or more years older than him! So whhhhy when he could have Zibby?

The emotional implications of sleeping with a 19 year old virgin would be much greater than with a ~50 year old who was pretty clear to him about what she wanted. And as a 34 year old man myself, the idea of sleeping with a 19 year old would just feel wrong, no matter how much of a connection I might feel.

I guess you're right, I am only 20 so like her I don't understand much of these things. If I was Jesse I would have just come back for her a few years later, I jest i jest.

I don't think she got him out of his slump. I think she was there to show that he was maturing and in a better place emotionally. After all, he's the one who sought her out and not because he was depressed but because he felt good. In a typical manic pixie dream girl scenario, the protagonist is usually morose or gloomy and the girl approaches him and drags him out of that space over the course of the film.
It was also just a nice way to end the film, sure they could have shown him being happy on his own but my point is it did not feel out of place to me. -

Well, if I remember correctly she was there in the beginning even before he want back to the college. Maybe the experience with Zibby made him open his eyes more and live more in the present, effectively enabling him to notice Ana and ask her out.
Another story function she has is really being someone Jessie could talk to about growing old, proving he's ready to accept it.
Personally I liked her and thought it was great that she only had a small appearance. It made me think about how every single person's life is purely their own in terms of knowledge. No matter how well you know someone, you can never know every single experience they've had. Sorry if that seems off topic. -

I wished that Ana had more scenes and was developed more as a character. But on the basis of the little they showed of her, I liked her. Imagine someone who says she has to force herself to read less and watch some TV just to be socially in step. That's my dream woman.
I might be a little biased though because I liked Elisabeth Reasor so much in the movie Sweet Land.
