without a doubt the film that best captures the spirit of what i love about Batman; dark and gritty due to a gloomy, urban gothic atmosphere rather than grim realism, filled with actual detective work, and a different kind of angst that comes with him being a "newer" Batman.
the visuals are across the board spectacular, with deep colours that feel just like comic splashes and constantly elevate the material, allowing for what is probably one of my favourite chase scenes in any movie. the film knows how to balance fantastical elements, grounded character work, and genuine camp silliness that belongs in this kind of story. it may be serious, but it never tries to feel like anything other than a stylised comic world, particularly evoked during the darkness laden opening.
the performances throughout are great and help to create a Gotham that feels truly inhabited, complex, and interconnected, but special praise goes to the three orphans at the heart of this story, whose lives parallel, impact, and crash against each other. Pattinson is a very fun portrayal that leads into his gloomy broodiness, while Kravitz and Dano provide what will i am sure be considered definitive portrayals of Selina Kyle and the Riddler respectively.
it is just a tiny bit overlong, Falcone is just a little broadly evil, and the end feels a lil messy, but otherwise this is just spectacular.
this definitely feels like the beginning of a story, but i'm very much excited to see what follows. -

He's not the only one disparaging this absolute masterpiece of a film. There are more. And they will be destroyed. I will do unto them what Batman did to those skull-faced ***** at the beginning of the film.

Agreed.
I too found it awesome and to be up there with Nolan't trilogy.

I'm pretty sure that is Riddler meeting Joker in Arkham towards the end.
