Starz? I'm skeptical.

For me I'm more worried that is was rejected by HBO.
Only because Neil Gaiman didn't want a straight-up adaptation of his book, he wanted to go bigger and beyond, and HBO didn't like that. So HBO was clearly the party in the wrong here.

I'm skeptical of it on any network, although I was ALMOST hopeful when HBO was producing it.
I love Neil Gaiman's other works and even the whimsical yet bizarre indie films they've made from those works.
But American Gods is different. It contains writing that transcends the genre. This will require genius in the production to really do it justice. Most of Starz other successes feel a lot like chick-lit-on-screen to me. This needs depth. I enjoy Flesh and Bone and Outlander as much as anyone, but come on. Outlander is based on a series of bodice-ripper novels. Flesh and Bone has high production values but at its heart it's mostly post-adolescent angst. American Gods is something else entirely, and in clumsy hands it could end up just like the rest of the paper-mache gaiman films.
I will say that Hannibal was one of the most artistically beautiful shows ever produced, so that gives me some hope. Some of Fuller's previous works are also on my "favorite ever" list. We shall see. My eyes remain squinty and my scowl remains set until I see the pilot.
Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.
