I'm sorry, SOMEONE had to make that statement.

Both Dredd and The Raid were bloody awesome in my opinion
^^This. Both are very similar being in a locked place, people under the orders of the kingpin to take out the cops but aside from the fight scenes, they're quite different. I still enjoyed both films quite a bit. Dredd is more action film, while The Raid is more of martial arts/action film, both are very badass though, I think TRR had more "HOLY SH*T" moments especially with their fight scenes.

Dredd 3d was so much better than this film. This was unfortunately cheap looking and the cgi was so attrocious it completely ruined any cool action. Dredd had a unique style and visuals, this was just repetitive and plain with a stupid plot in which no-one gets injured even after having their head pounded into the floor 5 times in a row. It was entertaining enough, but to say it is better than Dredd 3d like it is some obvious fact is just ludicrous. This is honestly an incredibly over-rated film, 7.6 is ridiculous. Dredd had interesting characters, every character in the raid was boring, even the insane villain managed to be uninteresting.

I hated this movie. This movie was beyond boring. The action was too scripted. It was to the point it was anti-climatic. I felt like I was watching a karate demonstration, not fights. Far too rehearsed looking.
Give be Dredd all day every day.

THATS WHAT MARTIAL ARTS MOVIES ARE: highly choreographed.im not a big martial arts fan but this movie and the raid 2 rocked my socks off..rama has to be one of the best cinematic creations of the last years the raid 2 which is roughly 2 and a half hrs went by like 90 minsnot a single boring scene/moment! the raid blew my mind.sorry im highly enthusiastic about this movieim not that way usuallybut this movie highly deserves the recognition!
dredd was also excellent! one of the better movies of the reboot/remake era

Movies are also full of acting, but ideally people in them aren't supposed to look like they are acting. The same goes for choreography in martial arts movies.
Mind you, this is more of a general statement, because the fight scenes in the raid totally rocked and were very convincing. But obvious staging and obvious choreography
can
ruin a martial arts movie for fans of the genre, the Tony Jaa movies are a good example of that. Nice acrobatics but everything looks like a stuntshow in a movie park. -

Sure
The Raid
had some great fight sequences, but for me
Dredd
was a lot more entertaining and stylish, and it was great to see an independent action sci-fi movie. I expected
The Raid
to be awesome on the level of
Kill Bill
or something in terms of awesome martial arts sequences, so I was mildly disappointing. -

I thoroughly enjoyed Dredd; we have the futuristic sci-fi premise, Karl Urban and Lena Headey, and it was in 3D. Call it racism or xenophobia if you like, but I had zero interest in a movie about an Indonesian drug bust.
