Both very good, although I liked "May" a little bit better.

Yes, this is definitely comparable to May, though I do think May is better. Still, Excision was quite great.

I love May, but hate Excision. May didn't feel as forced as the characters in this movie are portrayed.
May's character was actually likeable. There was a bit of Pathos worked in to her backstory making the bizzare ending very well deserved.
I know Excision came from a short film. But if felt like a bunch of pointless scenes were added around it to call it a feature. -

I echo your sentiment original poster. Excision is great, and reminds me of May, but May is superior. However, they're both good in my books.
I agree with fourthwall who says that May is more likeable. This is true. I liked May, but I hated Pauline. -

This film was better if only because AnnaLynne McCord gives a far better performance than Bettis, who is a very limited actor who wouldn't be able to effectively portray the confident portion of Pauline's personality.

I thought they both gave fantastic performances, although Angela Bettis was just a tiny bit better.
As for the person saying he didn't feel sympathy for Pauline, I'd disagree. I know I'm easily sucked in by "weird" characters in films, but the way she was portrayed, especially in the scene where
she heard her mother say she can't love her
, how can you not feel sympathy for her? -

I, quite accidentally just saw them both for the first time about two weeks apart.
Was surprised I had managed to pic two such similar movies from Netflix at random.
No plagiarism there, they just seem to have created a weird little genre with two films in it.
I really liked them both.
Maybe they should team them up in a sequel with May sand Pauline forming a relationship in an asylum.
