Yeah - smoking is cool, and doesn't hurt anyone, especially your own family folks..
CDC statistic June/2013: Worldwide, tobacco use causes more than 5 million deaths per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030.

Reformed smoker are we? You need to get a life.

It would be a stupid thing for the writers to portray the young female characters as vegans who do aerobics 4 times a week, go to church every sunday, abstain from alcohol and drugs and are saving their virginity for marriage to a good Christian boy. Now wouldn't it?
This isn't a film made for screening at your church social. It's not intended for your 8 year old daughter, either. If you want that, stick to the Disney Channel. No, never mind. Better stick with CBN.
So, here are two young women involved in the porn industry and illegal drugs, and you get on your high horse about the message they portray by smoking. What are you? Some kind of anti-tobacco nazi zealot? UnEffinBelievable.

Well put. I don't know what's wrong with people. The risks of smoking are so well-known, it's almost redundant to point them out, especially since smoking has long ceased to be portrayed in a glamourous light. People aren't so nave anymore that they see one cute actress lighting up, and think "I'm so there." But it's true to the story and plot. It's certainly not this movie's job to babysit people and teach them how to make good life choices.

The movie wasn't glamorizing smoking. Many people still smoke despite the warnings and health hazards. Heck, plenty of movie stars smoke Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Brad Pitt. Not that it makes it okay, but it's reality. It would be unrealistic to show Jane et al. not smoking, especially since they drink and do other drugs.
                      On a side note, that
                      Pan Am
show from two years ago was very unrealistic in its portrayal of commercial flying because it was supposed to take place in the 1960s, yet no one was seen lighting up. That's because ABC (owned by Disney) has a no-smoking policy, but it was ridiculous because people then smoked everywhere schools (teachers could smoke at their desks), hospital waiting rooms, movie theaters, even on airplanes.!
                      .
