I already wrote an answer for that.
http://www.imdb.com/board/12543164/board/nest/265913280?d=265971625#265971625
and I am not blaming the movie, I am blaming the execution of a story which has a potential, that has been wasted by idiotic decisions and alien design..
You liked it? cool. I am not calling you anything because you like it. I didn't and it is an overrated movie. deal with it. -

I got you. no offence taken.
I gave that movie 9 stars, cause it was underrated. Normally it should be 7.5, maybe it doesn't deserve 9 stars, but it is a good movie also.. a definite 7.. Cause it fulfills every promise it made, it got action, cliches, nice plot. It is decent enough for a movie with a nice story to have fun. Maybe it is cheesy for you, but I like that cheesy movies like "first blood".
That is not the point. What I am angry about arrival, it doesn't fulfill our (at least my) expectations. If you wanted to make a movie, with a story, that tells the people, being united as all living things even with aliens, if you wanted to build a story structure with philosophical support, I would definitely ask and expect better arguments, better reasons and better plot to believe in and understand.
Harmony and integrity matters more, than good will. I am specially pissed about the result with arrival, cause they ruined a potential, that it can be a cult. It is a disrespect to art of movie. They could do better but they didn't. They should have made definite explanations about how they solved and understand their language and their usage of it. I don't accept explanations like many fans are making; " their understanding of the language is different that is why they can foresee the future, but not know the future". These are assumptions. As an audience, I deserve more convincing and definite answers instead of blabbing about it means that or this.. They should create solid facts which can not be destroyed by anybody easily.
I would give this movie a definite 9, if there was no aliens or sci-fi involved. You don't have the luxury to make philosophical assumptions at a sci-fi movie. (at least for me)
As I said, I am not accusing anybody who loves that movie. And dealing with their decision. You should also do the same. I don't want you to agree with me.
Have a nice day. -

Stupid? The post is straight to the point and I could not recommend this film to anyone. If you think this is so good then this is what is wrong with today's film industry it is watched by people with low standards

I fully agree. While at the cinema, I kept switching from nearly falling asleep, walking out and praying it would be over soon.
Didn't deliver in any way, while visually it might have looked decent, it was tedious and shallow. Gave it a 6. -

People can vote what they want and it's not a cardinal scifi sin to be boring.
That said I wasn't impressed either. But then I tend to have different opinions than the general Joe on here about films.

You're confusing sci-fi with sci-fi action. Boring is subjective, but there was nothing nonsensical about the movie.
Frankly, I'm sick of movies that make it seem like humans would even stand a chance in a conflict with aliens capable of traveling between stars. That beep is nonsense.

I gave it a 5.
The acting was excellent along with the cinematography. It was even exciting, untill the last 15 minutes. Then it flattened out and became existential in a very bad way!
It had potential, but failed in the end, like a race car getting a flat tire just before the finnishing line.
All in all, a major disappointment. -

I vary between 7 and 8. Rated it 7, now 8, well maybe I'll reconsider when I rewatch it some months later.
It left me with emotions and I'm still thinking about it. I like how the movie itself is designed it ends like it started, or it starts like it ends I'm a sucker for such things ^^
Don't know if I could watch in the cinema xD Somehow I need action in the cinema (stuff like Gravity; pls no ID2) but here - at home, lying in my cozy bed - I can enjoy such movies and keep thinking. The end was so emotional.
From that it reminded me of The Tree of Life.
Loosely of Contact too.
