Aliens arrive (hehe) on our planet. The government contacts an interpreter. She tries to learn their language. Exciting stuff. Zzzzzz. All of that fills the first hour.
does it get better after that? Don't want to sound like a Michael Bay fan but If I watch an alien invasion movie, I want to see some damn action!

You doesn't sound like intellectually prepared for the subject matter of this movie. My advice is not to watch it.
