Just got out of a screening in Burbank. Very intense and unsettling film in certain regards. Don't want to spoil anything for anyone but I'm very curious as to what others will think of the revelation.

Yeah it left me feeling strange. I was moved by it, but the more I think about it, the more unsettled I become.

hmm, I rather felt that the ending was rather optimistic. Louise's flash-forwards foretells of the death of her husband (a quick reference in the dialogue) and her daughter dying as well (possibly from cancer), yet although she can "see" the future that is to come, she still proceeds on to live her life in the present. I personally see that the final chapter is about the importance of the journey, not the destination. She knows that her daughter is going to die, but she finds it still worthwhile and meaningful to live the life regardless, and savor the experiences, even though the end is already told.

Yes, that is why I felt that it left me feeling strange because while it was optimistic there was also a sense of sadness as well. I don't know how to describe it.

We all live, we all die Knowing that we will die does not diminish the quality of life. It's a matter of quality over quantity. Hannah's shortened life was worth living.

I feel what you said here is what this movie is really about. I feel the aliens and time travel blah blah paradox aspect of the movies is just a plot device for a bigger Philosophical question of our moments making us who we are. In a sense we all know the future. we all know there is an end but we still have to live in the moment.

In the short story on which the film was based (which lacks the militaristic aspects of the movie which were added on for more sensations - most likely a mistake) Louise acquires the ability to know the future before she decides to get pregnant with her daughter, fully knowing that the daughter will have a short life. It's very bittersweet. The short story is an astounding masterpiece. I hope the movie renders it well. I will go see it in a couple of hours from now, can't wait.

Oh wait, the husband dies? I didn't catch that, I thought he really left her.

Yes, I also understood that he left her after he found out that she knew all along that this kid is going to die.
I dont really think that this move was very good. It was ok, but I experienced no emotions watching it.
