That is true of almost all politicians and it's the reason most republicans voted against impeaching Trump. They knew he should have been impeached and removed from office but they also knew the republican base would turn against them so they didn't do it.

It is apparently fairly common for presidents to give out the Presidential Medal of Freedom to athletes, but it usually occurs after their careers are over. Tiger Woods will be the 4th golfer to receive it.
