George Takei expressed disapproval for making the character Sulu gay in the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond, not because he opposed LGBTQ+ representation, but because he felt it disrespected Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's vision for a straight character and that a new gay character should have been introduced instead. He believed this change interrupted the original timeline and character background, suggesting a previously straight character had to go into the closet in the pre-original series films.

I don't recall Sulu ever hooking up with a woman during the original series and their films.
The only poster who made Steve Lake wet his pants 4 times without ever breaking a sweat each of those times.
