The reason I didn't get it was that I wasn't clear on the motivation of the bad guy. A lot was spent on the Star Trek crew and their drama. Also, there were too many side villains. I love the space vampire concept. I love it. There's so much you could do with that. I tried but was stymied by "people". Yeah I'll just leave it like that without making specific names.
