-Ancient (dead?) alien race that left powerful technology behind, which is discovered by humans.
-Krall - The Krell (the long dead aliens)
-The alien tech turns Edison into a life-draining monster, the Krell's tech turns Morbius's Id into a physical monster

They could've littered the end credits with all kinds of homages but really was just the green hand (plus a nebula that sort of resembled the Doomsday Machine and a Genesis looking planet but probably wasn't).. at least Balok coudve made an appearance at the end
Or maybe instead of the usual CG planets and star fields there could've been like a 21 Jump Street thing of clips (or CG images) of the crews various TOS missions (classic scenes from classic eps redone with the new crew).Arena, City, Doomsday, Amok, Spectre of the Gun, etc -

One that has been overlooked. The "SpaceThe Final Frontier" speech presented in this film, with the use of "Its Continuing Mission" and "Where No One Has Gone Before" is the Next Generation version, verbatim.

That's true in ST09 it was 'her ongoing mission' (like Trek II), STID was 'her 5 year mission' (as in TOS although that was 'its 5 year mission')
STBs also homaged the end of Enterprise with the multiple voiceovers
