It's not the "origin story" in and of itself that made Zombie's Halloween bad.
The original Halloween already gave us an origin story. He killed his sister. The explanation by his psychiatrist of many years was that he was pure evil. It was nature not nurture. Fin and done.
What Zombie's Halloween did was give him an environmental reason for the turn to darkness. It was a culmination of the parental neglect and bullying. It changed the fundamental nature of Michael Myers' character. It was now nurture, not nature.
And not only did he change the character of Myers, he added in the most cliche of tropes like torturing animals when younger, having a mom who's a stripper, having a white trash family. That's not Myers. That's why Zombie's Halloween failed to resonate.
In H2, Michael sees visions of his ghost mother. Michael isn't supposed to have feelings, so he shouldn't be mourning his dead mother. I think Zombie would have made a decent Friday the 13th instalment. Jason Vorhees is definitely a killer who would have visions of his dead mother Pamela, not Michael.
So Halloween wasn't bad because of the origin story. It just has to be the right one.
Art isn't silent. Michael Myers is silent, expressionless, void of emotion, soulless. Art is quite expressive. He's vocal, just not with words. He's animated. He expresses a range of emotions. He has charisma. He communicates via silent pantomime.
I wouldn't seeing David Howard Thornton playing Art without the makeup before he was the killer. That'd be pretty cool.
These films are already unrated with extremely bloody kills. They have no studio limits. There's nothing they can do to make Art "not scary."

Strongly disagree. Explanations settle the mind. And the Zombie Halloweens tried way too hard to explain. Yes, he invented **** to try to explain it. That's the problem.
And by silent I meant literal silence. I was not commenting on other ways of communication.
