Absolutely dreadful..! They should have saved a lot of money and just rerun BBC3's "Bad Education", which at least had the occasional laugh and a certain down-market charm This was just bizarre..! It seems to be largely just a vehicle for Mr Walliams, whose popularity I've never quite understood God only knows how they managed to rope in genuinely talented people like Philip Glenister and Catherine Tate It's a shame they didn't bother to rope in someone who could write an engaging and amusing script.

Actually I expected it to be far worse though Frances De La Tour and the wordless Julie T Wallace steal the show and it's a change to see Glenister send up his usual tough guy image. Strange how almost every new sitcom on BBC 1 this year has been badly received - except Mrs Brown's Boys, which the public liked and the critics hated. Seems a new sitcom has to be on BBC 3 or 4 or Sky to be given a chance.

For me the trouble with Phil Glenister's PE Teacher, is that he he seems to have been lifted wholesale from Brian Conley's Doug Digby from ITV'S The Grimleys.
Frankley the cast in last night's episode looked embarrassed at some of the lines they had to speak.
Two episodes is enough for me I think..

He's the worst part of it, yes. I don't believe in the character for a start, which means he's massively unfunny to me, as well as Glenister clearly looking uncomfortable in the role.

DO you think it would have made better if they had set it in the 1980's? I was so disappointed by this it should have been good but OMG it wasn't even so bad it was good. I am not sure what is going on with the beeb and comedy at the moment but must try harder springs to mind. Ben Elton's last effort was as bad as this.

Why are the children so well-behaved, with a bunch of idiots teaching them?
I like your suggestion of setting it in the 1980s - the one slightly "bad boy", complete with appropriate headwear, is behaving himself wonderfully considering the quality of the lesson.
Shame. Waste of talent. It has little gleams of what might have been but really, no competition at all for other programmes on at the same time.

To be honest I can't see why this is receiving such negative criticism. It's a lot funnier than some of the crap that has hit out screens in the past ten years or so. It gets me that this is getting trashed when utterly unfunny and juvenile tripe like Leigh Franicis aka Keith Lemon dishes out. And while I'm not a fan of Catherine Tate as a comedian (her populairty confounds me) I have to admire her talents as an actress and she does well here.
I like the basic premise of it being a school where the teachers are no better than the unruly kids they teach. It's basicly the inmates running the asylum. Tate and Walliams have great chemistry with each other and the old Chemistry teacher is hilarious.

I certainly agree there are brighter moments, one of them being the lab assistant.
I think my comment was directed more towards the fact that the kids aren't unruly enough. I suppose they're intended to be the adults in the situation, and looked at that way, that could be an interesting concept.
But I've given the show three goes now, and viewed it more as a drama than a comedy, and I'm afraid that even on that level, it's not really doing it for me.

I have to admit that the third episode was disappointing. After the first two it was downturn in the quality. It's not a good sign when by half way through the show It looks to be running out of steam. never the less I'll give episode 4 a watch and see if it gets back on track.

To be honest I actually prefer BAD EDUCATION. It has more life to it and the kids in it are great, especially when they sang the Kings and Queens song from 'Horrible Histories' whilst Michelle Gomez runs rings round everybody else in either series. She was born to play Lady Macbeth.

I think it's funny that the kids are just CONTEMPTUOUS and can't be bothered trashing the place. It's like they see school as a chance to wind down and chill before getting on with the serious business of their lives outside of school. It would be too easy to have OTT kids running amok. Plus we only see the staff through a keyhole, four or so of them, so the other teachers might be more professional.
I think people are too hard on it - I found it wonderful, Friday night comfort viewing. It knocks 99% of BBC3's output into a cocked hat.

Yeah i know, normally i love British comedy/humor but this was so bad i even turned of the first episode before it ended.
                                      After 15 mins i didn't even have a grin let a lone a laugh.
                                      No this was pretty bad.

Yeah I really don't get why this is getting such criticism. It's fun and easy to watch on a Friday night. It isn't the best of comedies but it is interesting and provides laughs. Hope they continue with it.
