Was the mother threatening to physically harm Anora's family?

I didn't understand how else she could do anything about Anora filing for divorce and having legal right to half of Ivan's possessions. A better way for the writers to resolve that issue would have been to just have the mother explain Ivan doesn't have any of his own possession and that everything belongs to the parents so Anora would get nothing.
