While I really enjoyed the first half of this film, I felt the second half was a huge let down. For me, it just doesn't go anywhere. Truth be told, I was a little bored towards the end.
Michael Shannon - Great acting (Cruel bastard)
Andrew Garfield - Never been a huge fan apart from the Social Network
What did you think of the second half?

Well you kind of guess that Carver would be brought down but it just happened rather than some kind of plan by Nash.
      It's that man again!!

Can't agree with you more. Michael Shannon is great. Andrew can't do much if that's how the script goes. Could've been a whole lot better

Thanks for the warning. This is typical of every film Americans make that have strong social and political potential good start beep ending.
I shall cancel my Amazon UK BD pre order. Bloody trailers and hype.
I have been bitten too many times. Shame but political cowardice among filmmakers these days seems to be a professional qualification. Even worse they want the cred of taking on issues while bailing out on the substance.

That's the whole point though. It isn't implied that Carver is brought down. In fact, you can deduce from the final scene that Carver is untouchable.
So as morally questionable as the second half is, the ending is powerful and is quite clear - Nash takes the moral high ground and takes the fall. Carver survives and lives to try again. For a moment you feel good for Nash and the owners of that last house. But that's just a short time reprieve. Nash will end up in jail. The owners still can't pay their mortgage, so they'll still be evicted, just a bit later. And so in the long run, evil as personified by Carver, wins.
              Hello, Ground!

I'm not sure why you think Carver won't be brought down. Forging documents and engaging in corruption to have them falsely notarised is a pretty serious offence and he would do time for it. It would be pretty clear to the police/prosecuter that a small fish like Nash couldn't possibly have produced that document himself, even if he was the one to physically deliver it to the court.
My God, it's full of stars!

I don't think you get it. Carver wins, Nash loses. It's the whole point of the movie. AlienByChoice is 100% correct.

You forgot to add the sequel- Carver goes into politics and gets elected Governor of Florida.

Garfield's talent lies in movies like 99 Homes, he just doesn't cut it for Blockbusters. Michael Shannon is great in everything he does, though he actually could have been better in Man of Steel.

Man of Steel was pretty average, however, I agree Michael Shannon was very good. As for Garfield, I have really tried to like him but have never been a real fan. I was impressed by him in Social Network which is why I have continued to watch his films. However, I'm yet to be impressed. I didn't really like him as Spiderman but I think that may have more to do with the quality of film.

i agree- the ending fell into the cliche conventions of the genre. i thin it would have been nice to have taken us somewhere we didn't expect- but i saw the moral redemption thing coming a mile away- it set it up way too early- too many shots of garfield looking guilty at making a pack of cash- over and over. almost every scene was = "heres the money kid"- followed by- "ooh no- how can i live with myself " shot.
that really foreshadowed what was going to happen too strongly . at least in wall street for example- its a guy who s always been ambitious- so his turn is sudden. and then its left on a different note.

Good observation. The film over-played that hand way too much.
