Afflecks departure from Batman:
You know for years, I've been that friend that has adamantly defended DC. I liked MOS when it first came out, viewed it as a cool deconstruction tale of the greatest American hero. It had issues for sure but overall, it was a solid film to reboot superman. Then the announcement came about BvS I never felt so much excitement in my movie viewing life before! Maybe the announcement of episode 7 but that's it. Two of my favorite characters ever in one movie for the first time, directed by Zack Snyder whose films I enjoyed for the most part, and influenced by The Dark Knight Returns, my favorite graphic novel. Then once my excitement subsided a little upon reflecting on this announcement, I got a little bit worried. I felt there needed to be a MOS 2 before this, or a standalone Batman film beforehand. Then the big news about Ben came out And I was one of the few championing this choice. I knew he was a sweaty Batman fan, and he would do the role justice. He'd improved so much as an actor since daredevil, and turns out he was a great batman.
Long story short, i saw BvS and was tremendously disappointed. It felt so rushed and disjointed, but the 3 hour version made it flow better for me even if its still kinda boring. But I defended it. I thought Affleck nailed the role and was even more pumped for his solo film. And with the prospect of him directing it, I couldn't be more happy.
Then SS comes out, and again I was dissapointed but not as much as BvS. I had fun with it to an extent m, but there were an abundance of issues. Needless to say I defended it. I defended both movies from my friends and other haters. I defended it because I love DC and yes I saw these flaws, but looked towards the bright future of DC. Most notably Ben Afflecks Batman.
Now flash forward a few months, and receive the devastating news. And when I read it. I broke inside. The light at the end of the tunnel diminished for me. I felt betrayed and upset to the point of heartbreak. So much time of the past 3 years was hyping for this DCEU and now it seems its a flaming dumpster fire. I think the good out of this is I can't be hurt anymore. If WW and JL suck, ill be fine. My body can only take so much before I become used to the pain.
I think also I feel like a jackass trying to defend DC at this point. I always had that glimmer of hope that bens Batman movie would happen and would be on par with The Dark Knight. I WAS WRONG.. -

I, thankfully, saw this DCCU for the dumpster fire that it is from the start. I HATED Man of Steel and knew that it was a harbinger of things to come. That's why I didn't fork over any money for BVS and also will not do so for Wonder Woman or Justice League.
Same, as soon as Pa Kent said he should have let a busload of children drown to protect his secret the DCEU went into a nosedive it not only never pulled out of, it just kept going further down.
Hell just in MoS it nosedived so far below sea level it wasn't even imaginable. then BvS which was SUPPOSED to "fix" all the problems left hanging fro MoS but did nothing but make them worse, "Didn't like Superman killing Zod? well buckle up for his first scene in BvS putting a human through 2 concrete walls at 300mph. Enjoy Zach's middle finger in your face" or "Didn't like Pa Kent telling him to let some kids die? wait til you hear Ma Kent outright say she never wanted to share clark with the world, fck em, he doesn't owe them a thing, hang up the cape and let the hairless apes fend for themselves"
And then dipsh!ts try saying "It's realistic, they're only saying that because they care about him!" (DERP) EVERY version of the Kent's cared about Clark, but none of the other ones ever told him to let innocent kids fcking DIE to serve his own interests FFS.
the very foundation of the DCEU was shattered beyond repair. I said from the beginning they needed to just treat it like Green Lantern, trash it, start over again. Thanks to Batmeh v Supermeh Yawn of Justice, the "S" now stands for Sidekick -

Also, you would never see a MAJOR saying something like: "liek i juzt think heez kind hawt!!!!!!11" ESPECIALLY in the presence of her superior. Fcking moronic movie
My girlfriend actually refused to see any more DC based on that, she's not a huge fan of my comic movies (Save Dr. Strange cause it's got Bennigton Cummerbund in it) but as a lifelong career Navy woman she was beyond insulted at that and I got to hear the 3 hour version about how hard it is for women to get respect in the military and for them to portray a Major talking like a teenager at the food court to her superior made her sick. After I watched BvS she asked how was it? I said it sucked, she said "Good"
And yeah, the editing was horrible, all the over the top religious symbolism, the obnoxious product placement saturating it to the point they even added lines about it to the SCRIPT"Pete Ross? he works at the IHOP" Then awkward camera angles during fights just to include Sears and IHOP store signs
Everyone doing the stoic stare as they died.. supposed to be deep and emotional, by the third time it was eye rolling Jor-El stares off stoically as Clark's shuttle lifts off, stabbed, dies. Lara stares stoically at the horizon as a fireball engulfs her, dies.. Pa Kent waves Clark off, stands there stoically, dies. Cnl. Hardy fighting Faora, sees the ship about to crash, looks back her stoically, dies
He overused tropes like that about as bad as he overused shaky cam. "Oh look, Jonathan and Clark are having a heart to heart talk out by the pick up, this is definitely a found footage moment." "Oh look, clarks shuttle is coming out of phantom drive near jupiter, that's definitely a found footage moment because who's not buying someone was floating there in space with their iPhone filming for no good reason"
Plotlines that made ZERO sense "I have been warning my people that the codex has lead us to ruin, we need natural births to continue our race.. now let me take my natural born son and imbue him with the codex that I warned everyone not to use so he can continue our race elsewhere" What. the. actual. fck?
Then their genetics system was ridiculous. they have leaders dealing with a civil war, a super soldier getting his ass kicked soundly by a genetically bred super geek, (then twice more by an untrained farmboy before he's just sick of Zod's sh!t and snaps his neck) and a scientist that apparently is so bad at his job, that no one believes. are ANY of the genetic classes on Krypton even remotely competent??
Snyder is a fcking idiot who overuses things to the point they become absurd. Thanks to Batmeh v Supermeh Yawn of Justice, the "S" now stands for Sidekick -

Nice, though out post and yes, you're not alone with most of your opinions. Many of us were in denial that these DCEU films were underwhelming.
Even I thought Affleck's directorial side might re-invigorate the fall of the DCEU but as of now there is little hope left.
Maybe this franchise needs to be put to rest by 2020
