Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

    littleyellowfish — 9 years ago(December 05, 2016 11:37 PM)

Some viewers have said that WW and Batman overshadow Superman with how awesome they are, but IMO it felt less like they were overshadowing him and more like they were just taking focus off him and his character arc.
Considering this is technically a sequel to
    Man Of Steel
, then Superman is like the Bilbo Baggins of the film, since he was made an extra in a film where he should have been the star. It's like Zack Snyder was deliberately sidelining Superman simply because
    MOS
was divisive to say the least and Batman and WW seem to be more popular.
Because that's definitely what you do when the character is in an interesting and controversial place, right? Don't bother
    developing
him into the Superman we know, just kill him off and bring him back with a completely different personality.
"How come nobody's ever tried to be a superhero?" - Dave Lizewski, 2010.

I always had this weird feeling that Snyder loved Batman more than Superman
In this movie, it obviously shows

You want to know what was unfairly sidelined? Good ol' common sense.

They must be regretting the casting of Henry Cavill, an actor who can't even hold his own in a charisma matchup against Ben Affleck!
More seriously, this was meant to be Batman's film, a companion piece to "Man of Steel", which was Superman's film. This is a film where Batman is the protagonist throughout, it's about his reactions to Superman and the other superheroes. Wonder Woman gets to be protagonist next.
The question is, when they make the "Justice League" film, which of them will get precedence? Personally I think it'll be Batman, as a human he's easier for audiences to identify with, and Afflect is a better actor than Cavill (for what that's worth).
Seventy-seven courses and a regicide, never a wedding like it!

I think this was a genuine Superman movie and this was his story; I think Zack and company just have a hard time letting Superman the character speak and they don't know what they want him to say or how to say it. Most of Superman's story is told through his actions and visuals for the audience as opposed to words.

Which is what I like, Superman isn't the kind of character that needs to speak a lot anyway, he says so much with just his presence.
The film is more about people and the worlds reaction to Superman. One of the best scenes in the movie is the "Must there be a Superman?" scene. It's one of my favourite Superman scenes, people say Zack doesn't get Superman, that scene tells me he gets him perfectly, on a level most have never even considered.

Maybe in the theatrical cut, but no way is he sidelined in the Ultimate Edition. The whole film is centered around Superman. Pretty much everything that everyone does in the film is for, to, because of, or about Superman. The only characters not focusing all of their attention on Superman are Alfred and Superman himself they're occasionally preoccupied with Batman's antics, but even they muse about Superman's role in the world at times. This is a full on sequel to Man of Steel in nearly every sense, part of it is simply told from Batman's POV.
Edit: Now that I think about it, Diana doesn't seem to care much about Superman, or anyone else for that matter. Her part is certainly a side plot at best, though. No way her role in the film overshadows Supes's.

There's a reason the "S" stands for sidekick now.

Thanks to Batmeh v Supermeh Yawn of Justice, the "S" now stands for Sidekick

They ought to kill off Superman, for real and for good.

They're never going to kill off Superman for real and for good so just get that through your thick skull, and stop fvcking obsessing over the"Death of Superman".
