    Hi there.
Anyone else that saw "Mother" leaving the house at the end of the movie? When the scene with the fire department starts, one can clearly see a woman in a yellow dress leave the house, walk to the fire truck, then she takes a pause and look at the fire, before leaving into the woods.
I don't think she actually survived, of course, but anyone having any thoughts about what this symbolize or whatnot?

I think it simply means that the Mother was the first to die (in the house) and "move on" as a spirit.
That's why after that, in the very end, she comes to greet both kids; Lukas who's been dead all along, and Elias who likely died shortly after the Mother. They're now all together in death.
Fine, fine, I'll leave! But first I'm going to bother these peanuts! Hmm? Yes? Hmm? HMM?

I saw no reason to believe Elias died. The last time we saw him in the house he / they turned and ran, presumably to escape.

He/they actually ran towards the stairs if memory doesn't betray me, so his/their immediate thoughts weren't to get out of the house. And the final scene further implies that they're all dead, especially the lyrics to the song that the Mother is singing.

I'll watch it again, but, I too, think that Elias got out and since he has a perfect (to him) relationship with his dead brother, he now has that with his dead mother as well.

the shot was obviously to show that she is now a ghost, with those obvious spotlight on her that creates a 'surreal' feeling. that shot was the twist to the movie, that the dead brother wasn't an imagination of the living brother, but a 'real' ghost. And because how the mom early on played along that she could see him too, made the living brother confused, because he can see his twin brother and thought at first the mom could, who longer can, thus created the misunderstood that the mom wasn't the real mom.
