Straight white male reporting. I love this show dude, and you will too!
Mort/Maura's transition is really a small part of the story, it's about each of the family members messing up as they experiment with different identities to try and figure out who they are. It's also about how being part of a minority group (which all of us are in at least one aspect of our lives) does not mean that we aren't privileged and prejudiced in other ways. -

I am asking, because the show is written by a lesbian feminist. Which made me think about the writers who create shows.
The show is very lesbian heavy. And it made me interested in the topic of the "male" and "female" gaze. How most TV shows and movies are shot by white straight males, where the women is seen as a sex object. Funny enough when I googled "male gaze" and looked at videos from this topic, the first video I clicked on was from the creator of the show. Crazy coincidence.
Then it made me think about one of my favorite movies and I looked who directed them. Because if you think about it - a director or writer have the strongest effect on how a movie will turn out. So if a lesbian writes a TV show it will most likely be written from her perspective.
I just added "white" into the question, because I am white. Looking at it in retrospect I cloud`ve left "white" out of my question, but whatever. -

I like this show as a hetero male, but it gets silly and really just NOT believable for all these homosexual relationships coming from one family. Not offended , just think they are making this more of a caricature than realistic.
