No, we have not taken leave of our senses. It's just not your cup of tea. Get over it and participate in a board of one of the shows or movies that you like.

I watched and enjoyed two movie versions of A Man For All Seasons. One with Paul Scofield and the other with Charleston Heston.

I have to agree with the original poster.
I love me a period drama and the sets and costumes were lush but it was so slow and ponderous that it was hard to get involved in it. In fact, I came here to see if I had missed the current episode/s only to find it ended without an ending.
        PBS' preview
Inside the Court of Henry VIII
was far more interesting and even more entertaining.

Mixed feelings. It is certainly not awful. But I wish it was a little better. So far (just finished episode 3) I like the 1970s BBC production "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" (Keith Michell, Wolfe Morris, Dorothy Tutin) better.
It is a bit flat, ponderous, and dare I say it, undramatic at times.

Agree. It's a show I really want to enjoy and love - but for some reason, I just can't enjoy it as much as I want to. It's rather slow and draggyI feel as though the story could have been told already in half the time.
I prefer fantasy over reality TV - like Fox News. - B.Streisand

I have to say the film A Man For All Seasons takes a lot of beating.

I dragged myself through three episodes. And as each episode progressed I found myself doing more and more - other things.
It dawned on me that no connection had been established with any character and the events were playing out as if read by a monotone narrator.
Life's too short to watch any more.

the plot is so deep it has drowned.
Perhaps that is your real problem. I think of the plot as brilliantly and finely nuanced..you think of it as drowned in depth. To each his own, and lots of options out there these days.

Different strokes. I thought Rylance's performance was incredible and the plotting impeccable.
"Emperor's new clothes" is the kind of self-serving thing people in the minority tell themselves to rationalize their dissent as something bold and praiseworthy. But the truth is, you just have different preferences.

That is all true, of course. I was just so impressed by the cast of A Man For All Seasons and found Henry VIII, Cromwell and Wolsey a bit boring - try the movie yourself and see what I mean.

I didnt like this either, to me it looked almost too cheap ie:to me the costumes looked like they were from a halloween store. The performances seemed too wooden as well-but to each their own!

I've seen a Man for All Seasons, but it was when I was much younger probably too young to fully appreciate it. Perhaps I'll give it another shot.

I tried the movie. I love it. I've loved it since its release. It's on my short list of perfect films. I also love
                              Wolf Hall
. Different perspective, different emphases, different focus, i.e. More (who, incidentally, really did think torturing "heretics" was necessary) as opposed to Cromwell. I'm not sure why people seem to find these works' merits mutually exclusive.

                                What a bunch of nonsense.
Why should anyone care if you think something is 'boring'? Do you actually hold yourself in such high regard that you think your personal tastes and preferences are actually anything but subjective? I just don't get why people are so beep dumb these days.
Wolf Hall is certainly not for everyone. I know why people might find it boring, but, I also do not care. I don't care if you think something is boring, no one does. Go eat a dick.
Not every show needs to be puffed up with drama and over-acted. Points could be made as to historical inaccuracy, but to call it 'boring' is jackassery. I used to always complain about being bored when I was 8 years old. How old are you guys?

By the same token do you think anybody cares what you think. I was never bored by it or anything but it was boring in a critical kind of way. If you don't like what people write on here don't read it. You see we don't care that you don't care just as you don't care what we care about and guess what? I wrote this without need for all the beeps you needed. But to say
                                  no one cares
is a bit silly - how do you know that idiot?

The 'need for all the beeps'? I didn't realize anyone was counting, or that 'beeps' are some sort of resource that are ever 'needed' or 'not needed'.
'If I don't like what I read why do I read it?' Good question.
"But to say no one cares is a bit silly - how do you know that idiot?" Yes, it is a bit silly. It's such a tiresome point though, if anyone can claim that 'no one cares' about something, or can call something truly boring, it's this.
I'm sorry that my post upset you. I don't even remember what I wrote and I'm not actually interested enough to go back and read it. All I remember is that I read a whole bunch of nonsense, had a 'I can't believe people are so stupid' moment, and felt compelled to write something in response to it all.
To bring this back to the actual topic of the thread, 'boring in a critical kind of way'? I guess I just fundamentally disagree with you, probably on almost everything. The word 'boring' typically denotes a negative connotation, does it not? If Wolf Hall is not 'boring', why would you call it such? 'It's boring but it's not boring.' I know what you mean, but it's still nonsense, and it's a terrible way of describing something. It's not boring, and it's a shame that you feel obliged to say it is. Do not enough words exist in the English language to pick a descriptor that actually describes how you feel about the show, without throwing in intrinsically negative ones that you don't even actually agree with? 'Boring in a critical way' doesn't mean anything, it's dumb.
