I like the fact that for once a southerner sounds like he really should. Black is really from where LaSalle is supposed to be from, why should he sound like he's from California? So am I to assume that everyone who doesn't hide their southern twang looks inbred and stupid? That is an insult to all of us. Maybe everybody should talk the same. Jersey people, Minnisota, New York, we should all sound perfectly Californian.
I am from Tennessee and when I was a teenager I moved to Chicago. That question I was asked to most was why I didn't sound like the movies. I swear Scarlett O'Hara ruined the world for southern women. Her and Designing Women. You want to hear fake? Everyone of those were. They didn't even manage a good Savannah which is movie normal for everybody on film that's not some backwoods hick. You want hard to understand you should hear my relatives from Georgia. You could walk around the block twice waiting on them to say hi but they aren't stupid nor inbred.
Let me answer that question with a headbutt!

I agree. Entirely too corn pone. Sort of like Andy Griffith in the first two seasons of The Andy Griffith show.

I can understand him, but I can't stand the accent. Sorry if this offends anyone, but whenever Lucas Black speaks he sounds like he's dumb. In fact, there are times when I've actually "muted" the t.v. during his segments. Nothing wrong with a southern accent for the most part, but when it's as THICK as this guys . awful to listen to. I've known people from New Orleans, and have never heard any of them speak with this type of thick southern accent .

actuallyneither Lucas Black nor his character are from New Orleans, they are from Alabama. I have also heard him say in an interview (sorry..can't remember where it was) that he has turned down roles where they wanted him to hide his accent.

To me he talks like he has candy stuffed in both sides of his cheek. At first it was a real turn off but I've sort of gotten used to it. But he really doesn't love his craft of acting if it's too much to hide his accent for a role. The British/Australians do it all the time and speak "American" for various roles. I think even Jonny Miller had done so when he was on that other show "Eli Stone". And I think Russell Crowe, Colin Farrell, (who's Irish), change their accents for roles, so Lucas Black must not really care enough about acting if that's how he thinks.
Teenage love affairs are about intensity, not longevity

I'm a baker, cake artist, pastry creator. I am willing to do a lot for my customers, but there are a few things I will never do(like use shortening). He knows he is somewhat limited. Yet on the other hand, he really hasn't had a hard time finding work. Other actors will go for other accents because they choose to, to get the role they want. But I'm sure there are other things they won't do. I know some people don't like the accent. But if we all sounded alike, it would be boring as he**. And people are so bent on reality in shows, yet apparently not too much

I don't care how he speaks, i just think he's awful in this role. I know he's an accomplished actor (pretty horses), but he doesn't sell me on this one.

He's using his own voice because his character is written that way. His character is from Alabama so it only makes sense he uses his own authentic Alabama accent and not some phony B.S. accent like most actors would do.
People complaining about this have deeper problems with his accent than just merely understanding him.

It's because so many accents are "middle of the road" or basic Midwestern on tv. There's no inflection in it(unless you detect one of the British exports, not quite hiding their natural accent). Actors use their natural accents, & people have a fit. They'll go off because they cannot understand someone from England. I blame it on us not "talking" to one another anymore. It's all text or in print(ala IMDb
). Yet, you'll get others who ask why won't the directors let actors use their real accents. Look at this show, people complained about Bakula's terrible fake accent(which they did get rid of). But Black uses his, which is very common in Alabama, & people are turned off.

I don't like his accent either, neither does my daughter.
I can understand half of what he says. Its that accent that spoils it for us.

I'm from the West Coast and have no problems understanding him. If you have trouble understanding him at this point in the series I would have to question how long you've been watching the show.

Lucas is very proud of his Alabama accent and refuses to loose it for ANY role! He turned down several big movie roles because they wanted him to loose the accent. Good for him.

He looks terrible. He has the total skull head look. This last episode I looked it up on google and could not find anything. The guy on NCIS LA Sean Murray looks terrible too. The both have skull heads and look anorexic. I know men get it too, especially in Hollywood. It is strange to have one actor on each show looking so bad. Could it be the producers or the culture of the show from up top?
