I've been hoping that it improves but it seems to be getting cheesier by the episode. The absence of Cat Grant and Maxwell Lord is being felt big time. They added a much needed adult element to the show. Their characters gave it more substance. All the characters had substance and depth.Calista Flockhart and Peter Facinelli were really good in their roles and the writing for their characters was great.
It seems that in season 2 they traded depth for shallow cutesy scenarios. The dialogue is not up to par. It's a lot of cheesey one liners strung together.Except for Alex's coming out which was done well.
The fight choreography was much better in season 1 too.Even the Alex and Kara fight training scenes were awesome! And back to something I keep bringing up, the character of Kara has changed for the worse. She's become a caricature of the person we saw her growing into in season 1. Right now it seems that her only goal is to hook up with whatever cute boy toy they throw at her. There's no character development nor emotional core anymore. I wish they'd show her growing up instead of fawning over a boy like some lovestruck teenaged girl or getting drunk because shows think getting drunk is cute.
I loved season 1. I'm someone who rarely watches TV when I do it's news networks. I was so freaking tired of the election coverage this year that I decided to watch Supergirl on Netflix. I binged it in a couple of days. I found it a welcome bit of escapism and a breath of fresh air. I loved the depiction of strong women on the show. That has all but disappeared this season. The women have fallen into the my love life is more important than anything else soap opera trope. It's sad that girls who started watching this show for the positive female representation have now had that take away.
I still have not given up on the show. I'm really hoping it improves.I want it to be great like I'm sure it can be.

No thanks to Maxwell Lord. That character's been done a thousand times before.

The fight choreography is a lot better in Season 2, IMO.
The only one of your points I agree with is that the lack of Cat Grant hurts the show.
