What's with all these religious piles of holy crap ?

Well, that's just the thing. I don't find myself interested in horror flicks like Freddy or Michael or Saw or anything like them. But, when one is coming to the theaters I don't find myself barging into the boards concerned with them and voicing my opinion about how I'm so sick of horror flicks and they should find something else to make a movie about.
When it comes to religious movies I can always count on the anti-Christs coming out of the woodwork to run the movie down. It's almost funny to know that it's going to happen before looking and seeing it blossom right before my eyes.
I guess some people, like simonmllr and you, just live for that kind of thing. -

Not at all. I live for great movies and enjoyable films and having fun at the cinema, (If we are discussing films that is. I live for a lot else besides of course). Preachy, theistic films get my goat and really irritate because they describe the bible fables as if they are fact and not a mystical, made up myth that has been used as an excuse for centuries of horrific mayhem. No one has ever gone to war or started a pogrom because they disagree over whether Freddy Kruger is more dangerous than Jason. LOL

yes history is the greatest horror film of all time.
religion has been used to manipulate the masses.
religion though is not a horrible thing man is. read the bible , quran or any other religious book and you will not find a verse that tells you to go out and kill. Man is evil and films like friday the 13th or elm street do nothing but reinforce our blood lust. true or not films about religious topics do nothing but help to enliven our spiritual souls in a world ripe with materialism. the success of these spiritual movies is corelated with the rise of materialism.
what pisses me off is douchebags like you that clearly have an issue with god and religion in general coming onthese boards and jumping to conclusions about movies or shows that they refuse to watch . if i dont watch a movie i dont go commenting on its boards that i hate it. i haven't seen the latest elm street movie so i am not going to comment on it or vote on the movie because it would be hypocritical of me to do so; you should do the same -

Not trying to pick a fight here, nor trying to convert you or convince you of my own world view and cosmogony, we both know nothing we can say to each other will change anything in our certitudes. That said some stuff you wrote unsettled me and i feel compelled to mention them:
religion though is not a horrible thing man is. read the bible , quran or any other religious book and you will not find a verse that tells you to go out and kill
You can't be serious. What about all those verses in the Quran speaking of killing unbelievers and infidels? Or the verses in the Bible telling you to kill gays, or how to correctly treat your slaves?
Those are famous objections against any monotheism, i know, yet they are written black and white in their respective holy books. How can you dismiss them?
Man is evil and films like friday the 13th or elm street do nothing but reinforce our blood lust.
As for me, assuming man is evil is an aberration. Man isn't more evil than a deer or a tiger, there are only a posteriori social qualifications, approval and disapproval, but those qualifications are subject to change with time and space, which means that there are no such things as objective good and evil.
Man is capable of both at all times, he is as ready for cooperation and love as he is for murder and killing. It is human nature and it is neither good nor evil. Humans act according to their nature, just like any other being out there (what free will?).
Good and evil are strictly theistic considerations but have no inherent existence outside of the religious frame. Evil and good are actually very harmful and dangerous concepts insofar as they allow and justify senseless killing of anybody who happens to be in contradiction with the local set of taboos and interdictions, phenomenon that doesn't happen under the scope of reason and materialism, because reason, unlike theistic dogma, shows that we are one and the same. Instead of considering the other as a heathen worthy of hell-fire, reason compels to see the other as another "me" but simply under another random set of circumstances that causes him to be different but only in appearance. However, the wisdom that knowledge and science confer shows that we are immensely alike: same blood, same sufferings, same hopes and same love towards parents and offspring. Which in turns promotes empathy and true understanding, a task at which all religions have consistently failed.
As for the blood lust part, don't you think that psalms like this one promote blood thirst even more than any movie ever will?
"And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters, and everyone shall eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them"
Jeremiah 19:9
or
"Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock" Psalm 137:9
The reason why i assert that passages such as those above are more harmful than any movie will ever be is simple, a movie, whatever ideas it may contain, will never claim loudly to be the absolute truth that has to be followed and revered under the threat of eternal fire and torturing, which is quite a big difference. A movie doesn't pretend to be the word of God, nor does it aspire to reveal absolute truths.
As for me, one passage of what is supposed to be the "word of God" that incites to intolerance and barbarism is much more dangerous and harmful than a 100 movies can ever be.
true or not films about religious topics do nothing but help to enliven our spiritual souls in a world ripe with materialism. the success of these spiritual movies is corelated with the rise of materialism.
First of, where you see an "enlivenment" i see a perpetuation of archaic ideas and values that should have succumbed to a healthy change of ideas that religious dogma is simply incapable of. How can ideas such as the killing of homosexuals, the undermining of women and the condoning of slavery be considered an enlivenment? How can this be of any help to our "spiritual souls"? Not to mention that there is no such thing as a soul
Secondly, what is wrong with materialism? I consider myself a materialist and i humbly believe that it is the only way to save humanity from the darkness of superstition and obscurantism. If it wasn't for materialism, we would still be sacrificing babies and virgins to appease this or that God of the moment, we would still be afraid of the dark fearing demons, evil spirits and ghosts.
We would still be trying to heal the sick with magic tricks, prayers and animal sacrifices. So again, what is wrong with materialism?
Materialism, as a product of science and rational thinking, identifies and highlights human nature as a whole and connects human beings in their similarities rather their dissemblances whereas religion and God(s) encourage regionalism, communitarianism and exclusion.
Moreover, materialism bears fruits that theistic belief never will: the eliminat -

give me a verse in the bible where it says mankind should kill the gays.
infidels in the quran give me a text from the quran where it says that. i'm talking bout the quran and not about wahabi if you even know what that is.
in the bible there is the story of sadam and gomora where god destroyed both cities because they were ripe with sin . in it is the mention that part of that sin was homosexuality but it was more of a reference toward lawlessness. preachers , priests , imams interpreted certain actions of god and the angels and then told people to go kill.
my point is people that run religion may be good or evil . If you go by the word of god in any holy text it basically says you should'nt do harm unto anyone good or evil because at the end of the day god will take care of all
inform yourself before you go making stupid comments like:
"You can't be serious. What about all those verses in the Quran speaking of killing unbelievers and infidels? Or the verses in the Bible telling you to kill gays, or how to correctly treat your slaves? "
if you want to be taken seriously then give me an exact quote where god tells you the reader to kill someone before making such statements
"While i understand your point of view, i also understand the need of atheists to thwart the religious agenda by commenting on such movies or other articles or documentaries in order to promote rational thinking against blind faith."
this is not the place to make such comments. do that in online religious or scientific journals. movies are made to entertain not inform. tv , documentaries, even news programs are made to entertain not inform the problem in todays society is people are getting most information from sources that are made to entertain and are stupid enough to believe them this is still much better than in the past where the clergy were controlling peoples misinformation and millions died in the name of god.people in general have been and are stupid because of where they get their info.
It's a shame because with the internet at your fingertips find the truth like never before. why don't you do that and while your at it find me the verse in the bible where god tells you to kill the gays.
"Not to mention that on any atheist board, video or documentary, there's always an illuminated visionary quoting Genesis and remarking how deluded and ignorant we are, that we work for Satan and will join him in hell and so forth"
then read genesis so you can argue with him on pure fact of what it says and what it doesn't say because that idiot is wrong..
If everyone is telling you to jump off a bridge does that mean you should jump?
same goes for reading the bible, just cause a preacher or priest tells you that something in the bible should be interpreted like this does not mean it should.read the word of god and decide for yourself.me personally i dont believe in religion but i believe in god, jesus, moses , and mohammad. i informed myself before making that decision.
"Materialism, as a product of science and rational thinking, identifies and highlights human nature as a whole and connects human beings in their similarities rather their dissemblances whereas religion and God(s) encourage regionalism, communitarianism and exclusion"
If you inform yourself by reading all documents pertaining to jesus and not just the bible you will realize the central message that god wanted him to transmit was we are all gods children. when jesus said in aramaic i am the son of god, the translation got messed up cause in aramaic language language son and sun are the same wordjesus really meant i am the sun of god transmiting his central message. we are all gods children. constantine the great edited what stories were to be put in the bible and what were to be left out or changed slightly. man's inherent nature is to lie, mislead and manipulate.if you read enough you will differentiate manipulation much better ..please inform yourself before making stupid comments other wise your just like the other sheep in history that have murdered in the name of god and that has nothing to do with whether you believe in god or not
tell me how materialism truly unites people. all it does is offer you
options that allow you to differentiate yourself from other like buying a ferrari cause only like twenty of them are made each year or wearing a rolex to show off the rank of my class in a society . replacing religion with materialism does not help to reduce death but to increase crime through jealousy. material wants have killed as many people in the history of mankind as has religion. i.e genghis khan massacreing thousands for gold.hitler killing millions to conquer the world (for land) the conquistadores killing indians for gold. -

I didn't resume this discussion because you made it a painful experience by calling me stupid in every paragraph and by displaying such arrogance in your sentiment.
The only thing i will say here is that before you call people stupid, you should maybe check the definitions of the topics at hand first, because it is clear that you have no clue whatsoever of what materialism is and what it really entails.
No, materialism isn't simply "buying a ferrari" and the love of gold, the materialism i am referring to has strictly
nothing
to do with that.
Anyway, if i had the slightest feeling that you have a minimum of intellectual honesty, i would try and explain it to you, but it is clear to me that it would be a lost cause. People resorting to insults as a substitute for an intelligible argument are not worth my time.

Sigh Does Leviticus 20:13 ring a bell? See? As easy as that.
You're ridiculous in the very first sentence, so excuse me if i don't take you seriously at all. Why would anyone make such a claim when a simple google search can prove him wrong is beyond me.
Not to mention, you must not know the book in question at all in order to ignore one of its most infamous verse. It shows how much you actually know behind that wall of certitudes.
Here's some good Jesus for ya in Matthew 10:34-37:
"Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A mans enemies will be the members of his own household. Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."
Nice guy, eh? The perfect son-in-law!
Now please, be quiet.

Bible movies "get your goat"???? You mean this one?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Baphomet.png
Interesting. Someone mentioned the anti-Christ's showing up to boards like these. Do you know who Judas Iscariot is? One of the original 12 apostles who betrayed Jesus with a kiss and for 30 pieces of silver? Commonly referred to as an anti-Christ and the "Son of Perdition" (Son of destruction, son of Satan, etc) Here's the story
John 13
Jesus Washes His Disciples Feet
1It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2The evening meal was in progress,
and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus
.
3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, Lord, are you going to wash my feet?
7Jesus replied, You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.
8No, said Peter, you shall never wash my feet.
Jesus answered, Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.
9Then, Lord, Simon Peter replied, not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!
10Jesus answered, Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean.
And you are clean, though not every one of you. 11For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. Do you understand what I have done for you? he asked them. 13You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one anothers feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
18I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: He who shared my bread has turneda against me.b
19I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. 20Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.
21After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.
22His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. 23One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. 24Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, Ask him which one he means.
25Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, Lord, who is it?
26Jesus answered, It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish. Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.
So Jesus told him, What you are about to do, do quickly.
28But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. 29Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival, or to give something to the poor. 30As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.
Then there's THIS
25:31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
25:32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another,
as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
25:33And he shall set the
sheep on his right hand,
but the goats on the left.
25:34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
25:35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
It's no coincidence that Baphomet, the goat satanic symbol is "goat headed." A "Judas Goat" is a goat trained to lead other animals to slaughter. Named after Judas Iscariot, the Biblical betrayer who Satan entered to assist in the condemnation and betrayal of Jesus.
John 17 refers to "the son of Perdition" associated with Judas. Jesus protected all of his apostles from Satan because they were loyal sheep and he was their protective Shepherd. Judas, the goat, assigned to carry the group purse, was said to steal from the meager monies carried by the apostles. He was -

Lena, too bad the bible is just bull sh t. You should use your memory for something worthwhile, instead of wasting your time on your ridiculous religion.
I hate bigots of all kinds. Especially religious bigots, who are probably that way due to idiots for parents.

I am not going to tell you who will betray me in words but will give him a piece of bread. I am not a tittle tattle or a grass HO HO HO.
I am most likely agnostic. Something did all of this unless we are just that little bit above the beast and remember how close we all are genetically. Some say close to the ape but we are not that far away from MICE either.
My only problem is with RELIGION being a method of stealing money from the many and putting it in the pockets of people who are closer to the idea of Satan than Jesus. Charity has now gone to the dark side and those faiths that are registered as charities are basically thieving and giving pittance to the charities good people hope to assist but in reality are paying wages to parasitical hanger ons. In truth we are [well those who work and buy stuff with our ill gotten gains when we hide our real worth from democratic treasury's are already giving to charity by the 20 and 25% that some governments top up. It like religion has all become a great scam. I feel that our existence in this universe expanding at whatever rate it can makes us all a very small part and what GOD has the time to check it all out. His balancing act if indeed he cares will make sure no astral body hits us??? again??? It is arrogant to think that anything which has existed mire than the 14 billion years we think we know about has us particularly in mind and chooses to converse with us. Unless we are Moses, Jesus, Mohammed peas be upon him, or Joseph Smith and now Ron L Hubbard. Mind you in the later case he like Jesus was not responsible for the following cult.
I have not yet seen this series and will watch with interest as the whole bible story is quite a wonderful one and does I hope assist mankind in doing what is right for fellow man. Any faith which preaches a good attitude to others is to be given credit. But in truth I cannot see how tolerance is acceptable. That is like suggesting that all the runners in the 100 meter's are all winners of the gold medal and and equally fastest. I am sorry but but my FAITH has to be the right one and all the others are false and the world should be made aware of that.
My understanding of the New Testament though is that while the main four Gospels are so differing in some aspects we do have PAUL who seems to have taken over the whole business much in the same way as our modern publicists do and we now have the result as the the Christian part of the Bible. I remember a very well known publicist who GRACED our screens for how many years telling us how it is. Max Clifford. -

How can all you that dont believe in God or think the bible is 'fairy tales' explain all the prophesies that have been proven 100%? Everything that has been predicted in the bible has come true. Just the birth of Christ and all he did had over a hundred different prophesies predicting it. I just cant fathom not believing in Jesus and what he did for all of human kind.I hope you figure it all out soon.

because the "bible" hasn't even been remotely correct about anything since it's a horrible translation of crap taken from the Babylonian bible written 2000 years before it.. a bunch of crazy suicidal natives in Central America guessed more things right than the bible.. you can believe in some fake higher power all you want but don't ever say the bible has predicted anything in history correctly..

Yeah but people don't watch horror flicks and believe it's all true and then try to force other people to believe it, and decide that because all this stuff is true it means some other people can't do certain harmless things. So it's totally different!
lol
