Well, kudos for the two sarcastic comments above, very good indeed.
From someone who works in IT, I can say that this is one of the most Realistic shows I've ever seen. Keep in mind that a Hacking TV show could never be too realistic, unless you want to have entire Episodes show Hacking Tutorials, and if that's what you're after, there are lots of YouTube Videos for that, this is a TV show.
To give a good example, there was one scene when Elliot says "I'm hacking the FBI" I almost cringe at the tough that he was gonna pull off one of those "Hollywood Fake Instant Attacks", but I was very pleased to see that the Hacking was just a beginning of a several stage process, like it would be in real live.
We see Elliot using putty to connect to VPSs, using a Private IP, which was GOOD, since most would say "HaHa it should be a Public IP Instead", or maybe he was using an SSH Tunnel to have whatever he would have to have to check the headers of the Traffic in between, and to have a clean exit, instead of Just connecting directly to the VPS's Public IP. In the Dialog he explains the whole process of how it's going to work while he is doing it, and although you could not "Make a Hack using that scene as a tutorial" is was good enough for the general viewer.
Another Scene, is while Darlene was guiding Angela to the Process of Restarting the Computer with a Linux Running on a Pen, to then get the Wireless Interfaces up on the BTS device Up.
Again is not truly mimicking Real Live, but for a TV show, it's ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, given that we can use for base of comparison:
"Jurassic Park: This is a UNIX System I know this"
"Chuck: Underground Hacking Scene"
"NCIS: Two people typing frenetically at the same Keyboard to Outrun the Attackers"
"Swordfish: A guy hacks the FBI in 60 seconds while getting a BJ, and under the pressure he is going to die if he fails, just because he's THAT GOOD"
"War Games: Not even worth mentioning"
My point is, unless you just want to prove you know about hacking a lot more than someone doing a TV show, well, so do I, and so does and anyone IT literate, but for the conventional standards of "TV Hacking", this could not be much better, without scaring away everybody, but geeks.
And please don't turn this into a competition, as admittedly I'm not a Hacker, because my Programing Skills are sh**t, but I think I laid out enough information, to make a valid point.

I'm retired now but I used putty weekly and ssh daily in my appointed rounds. Those alone made me sit up and say "This is a linux system, I know this". I also liked how they worked raspberry pi in there too. It's just a lot of fun to watch something that is clearly written by people who enjoy the same interests.

Well said! If the writers had shown real-time hacking or even coding, most of the viewers would be asleep after ten minutes, in spite of the fantastic writing, great characters and the acting. So they did just what you said. I'm one of those people who knew what a ddos attack was and what Tor is, but I'm grateful for the stuff I've learned, such as how to use a femtocell, how to use audio-encryption like Elliot and what a Raspberry pi is! I'd love to hack like he does, or even 1/10 as well, but I'm too impatient and coding is too much like algebra II (I flunked!).
One way to test how accurate the show is is to go to some of the websites they use, like decode.org, and fool around with encrypting and decrypting your stuff. That scene when Elliot and Mr. Robot decode the message about Wellick's taxi was great!
I'm also grateful that they didn't make this show so technical that my husband (who now loves it) refused to watch it. He's lucky if he can get on the Internet.
Expecting a show to be as "accurate" as the OP (who offers no examples of what he thinks a "good" computer-based show would be!), would be the same as the writers of "Breaking Bad" showing us all enough chemistry to make meth! They didn't, but instead, showed just enough (using real chemists as consultants) to engage the viewer.
Anyway, you did make a valid pointthanks!
P.S. My favorite ridiculous computer hack is from the X-files ep., "Kill Switch", in which a young Goth girl and her boyfriend make an AI that "escapes" onto the Internet and takes control of a satellite from the "Star Wars" program (which exists after all) and can aim a particle beam at a briefcase thrown off a bridge, blowing it to smithereens. The AI also has unbelievable access to high tech contractors who always show up and keep the physical nexus ship-shape! Still, TXF ruled.

what's the title of this thread? would "another" be a keyword? i gave no examples because, as far as i know, there are none. and that was the point - and a rather obvious point, too. kudos for missing it! -

the problem is that they made it an actual plot point which then sinks the plot.
when the/a central plot point is just ludicrously fake/stupid/wrong, one can't exactly have a good/tight plot.
arguing that it's typical hollywood isn't an argument, it's exactly my point: hollywood is too stupid and lazy to bother even trying. -

If they made this show realistic in terms of hacking it would cater to a very small number of people. The point of a successful television show is to cater to the most people possible.
