Great stuff until the confrontation scene and then it was like it lost its nerve, I'd have liked to have seen them all stare nervously at the computer screens and gradually realised Abel Archer was just an exercise. But I'd love to see a sequel where we see how the characters deal with German reunification

Me too. It has real possibilities to see how Martin deals with the life back homethe whole mess with Annett in which he is determined to see his child has a father, etc.
Then more of Tobias and his new agent, Thomas.
The writers DID say that they'd like to do more with maybe 1986, then moving to 1989 to show all of that great stuff.
They said it might on the lines of "This is England" format.
      Fingers crossed!!!
What worries me is all the press about the terrible ratings it had in Germany, it's primary market.
So, how much do sales to Channel 4, Sundance and all the rest of international sales balance the books when it comes to getting a renewal? Or will they only count German ratings?
      Hopefully not!

It was an enjoyable series but it went off the boil in the last couple of episodes. The scenes of the nuclear war in "reverse" in the final episode were laughably bad.

Agree about the "nuclear war" series of scenes.
In fact, the whole nuclear tusslewhich in some ways was the McGuffin on which to hang Martin's coming of age (Cold War) taledidn't entirely work for me. It certainly was based in fact, but the way it was done came off a bigI dunno.
I couldn't figure out if they were trying to build an homage to "Fail Safe" with all those reverse scenes orthey just got carried away with themselves like film students doing a project. :-))

I agree totally. What disappointed me was them concentrating on this "everyone is about to get nuked unless Martin convinces them it really is a war game" element. I didn't buy it for a second. I lived through the Regan cold war years and at no point did it ever get that close. They were making it look like the Cuban missile crisis and it never came close to that. I feel this was a mistake and a missed opportunity. What would have been infinitely more interesting and equally as tense would be just to concentrate on whether Martin was going to be exposed. We didn't need all that silly Nuclear War Imminent crap. And as for that nonsense with Annett and the Generals daughter, oh come on as if.

But then if it had got that close you would never had known anyway.

It will be 3 years in the future and will be called Deutschland 86. It's set to premiere on Sundance TV in 2018.

For this reason you have your wish! You'll see the reunification. Personally, I am not sure how interested in that I'll be. Growing up in the Cold War, I pretty much know how that went. What we didn't know was what life was like behind the Iron Curtain. I like seeing how they dealt with tyranny and totalitarianism. How many fully believed in it? How many wanted freedom? It's very interesting.
As for it slowing down, I'm not sure I agree. Admittedly, it's been so long since I've seen it I've forgotten a lot of what happened. I remember
                a bomb and a terrorist
                of some kind.
If I remember correctly, it was the direction it went rather than slowing down. I wanted to see him
continue his work, but it seems like that was not where it was going
                toward the end.
