Theory: Ultimate revange

Long story short: Edward comes back to kill Hutton, Susan's new husband.
I've read several theories that say how the novel is a metaphore for Edwards and Susan's relationship and different Novel-real life character mappings and some of them make sense and some of them don't.
In my opinion, the Gang represents Hutton, who took Edwards wife and daughter away from him and Tony and Bobby represent the two sides of Edward.
Remember when they found the bodies when the sheriff says how they went easy on his wife and the daughter was the want who took severe damage? Well Susan was only taken away from him, but his baby got killed when Hutton came into play.
Remember the 'Revenge' painting? Could it be that it appeared just to symbolize the revenge from the novel? Yes, but I don't think so. I think it was given as a hint about the upcoming ultimate revenge.
Remember how the first two criminals got (more or less) what they deserved but the third, and you could say the leader, was still free making the job unfinished? Well maybe Edward has been watching Susan and her new husband for some time, maybe he is aware that their marriage is falling apart. That gives him some comfort, but they are still together and Hutton is still alive, making the job unfinished.
He wants revenge. Why now? Because he has cancer, just like Bobby, the strong side of Edward that he found in himself only after Susan and his baby were taken from him.
What do you people think about this theory? -

I've little doubt you got it right with everything until your second from last paragraph. I think the revenge stuff is no more than a red herring, and Edward's dinner no-show is caused by a serious illness (Bobby's cancer/Tony's accidental death=Edward's true condition).
