He never showed up. Why would he just leave Tony to his fate, and then not even show up to see what went down int he morning in the shack?

He probably was getting rid of Lou's body. He most likely found Tony and Ray's bodies afterward.

He has lung cancer right? So, I think he went to get rid of the body and to do that he may have started digging a hole and he may have died or too sick to get up that hole.
