That Barb is definitely dead, she's not coming back for season two, but there will be justice for Barb.

I imagine the justice is because the outrage wasn't that she died but that she wasn't mourned. No one seemed to care she'd gone other than Nancy, there was no plot line showing her family worried or searching or asking questions.

Well, I imagine, we could have some closure with Barb in Season two. The sheriff may even explain the whole thing to her parents. And when the slug grows up and we have another epidemic Barb's parents could end up being more involved with the other parents. The whole attack at the school and what with what the kids were doing there, the whole town (which doesn't seem that big), may know more than half of all the details, whether correct or not. The whole incident may bring the whole town together, and possibly even locked-down by the Power & Energy corporation (forgot the name). I don't think the events of Season 1 have completely passed into history we may see some changes in a few of the characters too.
