Then you won't understand, nor enjoy this series. I was belly laughing a few minutes into episode one. "You got floor in my Lima beans!" I completely forgot about the HBO movie with Drew Barrymore until I saw this.

I LOVED their send up of Grey Gardens!! Turning into a found footage film was great IMO.
I do fear the satire will be missed by the majority of the people that give this show a shot though.

lol that's ridiculous and super pretentious. some of the original documentaries I'd seen and some I hadn't and they were both good.

Last year i watched Sandy Passage, i loved, found it very funny. Ive only got to see Grey Gardens, last week, and i was mesmerized, and now i love the parody even more, but you don't have to necessarily know the originals ones to enjoy it.

Honestly I haven't seen any of these actual documentaries parodied but I am in love with this show. But I'll definitely watch them now.

So true! They only one that was really funny for me was the "Grey Gardens" spoof because I have watched that doc before. I wounder what they are spoofing with the one about the globe salesmen. I would like to watch the doc before it is on.

I'd like to know what the original idea was for the globe salesmen, also. I did like the whole black and white and the clothing, cars and general style of that era, though. It was perfect. (I'm old, I was there.)

It might have been that "Door to Door" movie with William H Macy. Seemed to have had elements of Glengary Glen Ross and Tinmen in it.
I didn't have an LOL moment in this one until the Rothsteins.

They are spoofing the 1968 Maysles' documentary Salesman:

You definitely want to check out the original documentary as I found it highly entertaining and a great time capsule.

I don't watch many documentaries, but there are only a few real spoofs, am I right?
I know about Green gardens, then the one which spoofed "Nanook the escimo" and the recent one they tell here about its a spoof o a movie called salesman. But othern than that? I just had the feeling the other ones were not based on real movies, but each on a special type of documentaries.

Some episodes are based very heavily on the original, but some others are only inspired by the original documentary.
