Don: Hey, you need to chip in on gas.
Robbie: I told him, I don't have any money, that's why I'm hitchhiking. Then Don gave me a note with his name and address and telephone number and told me to do the right thing.
The fact that everyone hated Don was hilarious.
I think we all know someone like that.
He doesn't really do anything, but we just hate that person.
I don't let anyone hot-comb out my HAIRitage!

Robbie: I'm the only one who knows. Interviewer: knows what? Robbie: that i did it. Don: did he do it? Do you know? I'd sure like to know. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!

What was the real documentary that 'The Eye Doesn't Lie' was based on? Do you know?

I think The Thin Blue Line, but don't quote me on that. If it is, I'm watching it as soon as I can.

Just did a search and it is the thin blue line. I wonder if it's on YouTube? I found out that Grey Gardens is on there, maybe this one too. Honestly I'm not to familiar with all things you tube. I must be missing out

Did you notice all the inconsistencies in the dates? It was 1976, 1982, 1985, and 1986 at some point or another during the episode haha. I don't know if that was done on purpose or they just didn't bother to keep the story straight 🙂 Hilarious nonetheless!

I noticed that it started in the 70's and then the car plates were tagged for 86. I'll have to look for that when I make my wife watch it. Good eye

Yeah, that was a funny bit. Documentaries are known for their terrible re-enactments with the little money they have.

                      Watch this first, for laughs
before you watch the actually documentary.
A year after the documentary's release the real "Don" was released from prison. The funny thing is that you know TEDL Don will never get out of prison.
The one with Nanook is also on youtube, I don't think I can sit through an hour and a half of that one.

Yeah, it's a parody of The Thin Blue Line. The sad thing is it's just a slightly exaggerated version of the real events.

it also had a really strong vibe of mocking The Jinx, the HBO documentary about Robert Durst, the re-enactments, the taped "confession" at the end, & a lot of the way Fred Armisen's character spoke & acted seemed like an impression of Robert Durst.

I immediately thought of Durst. I'm so glad I caught up with The Jinx before seeing this because I resisted thinking I would not be interested, already knowing the outcome. I binged it in a weekend of course.
I rag on Armisen but this was the best thing he's done so far in the series.
What I really want to know is why the guy was sign dancing at night???
                                I'm kind of Sherlock-y, so

I agree. They didn't have to do very much to make the parody over-the-top ridiculous; the events depicted in
                                  The Thin Blue Line
were already so insaneparticularly the mental gymnastics the cops and the DA performed in order to make the facts fit their (totally inaccurate) theory of the crime and David Ray Harris' stupid, petty reason for giving false testimony against Randall Adams.

This was easily the best episode of the series. To be honest it's the only one that made me laugh several times. Most of the eps fell flat big time but this one was funny AND the parody was spot on.
I don't think it was parodying The Jinx specifically though and Lentile didn't seem like Durst to me so much as just a stereotypical yankee douchebag in general.
