Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Crown

I only got through the first few episodes of season 1 and it's right up my alley. I'm not sure how many liberties were taken, but they make it damned clear that he's a "free spirit" and she knew that when she married him. And I recall the movie about Princess Diana's death (
    The Queen
, with Helen Mirren (as QEII), Michael Sheen as Tony Blair and Helen McCrory as Cherie Blair…where Prince Phillip makes it damn clear how upset he was that Diana didn't just look the other way for having her affair while Charles had his, before making a book and doing interviews about there being a third person their marriage: Camilla….and Prince Phillip's comment made it sound like every male consort is going to have affairs, that's perfectly normal and in the movie Elizabeth looked perturbed and replied, "Oh? Do they?" as if to indicate all these years she trusted him?
So back to The Crown, I just wanted the trailers for 2 and 3 and it sends a clear message she married a player who will always be "a good ol' boy" and while nothing overt was seen in the trailers it was heavily implied that he had plenty of affairs on Elizabeth but she never lost her love for Charles. Though in a few scenes it shows she's getting fed up with his philandering.
So two different movies, both works of fiction" based on real life situations, does anyone know about Phillip? The "authorized biographies" I've read of the royal family are authorized for a reason. Not a single bad word or implication is mention nor implied. They were meant to be "tell all's" with interviews with staff and friends and people below stairs…and every single one just corroborated what a perfect man Phillip is and what a perfect arrangement Elizabeth and he have.
I'm not as familiar with the family today as I tends to study HISTORY so I go back to the 1400's.
Anyhoo,…what's the real scoop on Phillip's actions with regards to his wife? Some implications are he buckled being subservient to his wife.
