Does this get better?

same same re: bingeing as a result of golden globes and BORED to tears. i've watched 8 episodes so far and dull as a door nail, albeit minor minor excitement in the 8th episode. i also agree with you that i'd rather this money, sets and talent have been poured into a grand sci-fi or fantasy show. they really can't make ENOUGH of those - and they're rarely so well done as this, although the subject matter of the crown makes one wonder why more royals don't off themselves. ugh.

It's not for everyone. I liked it a lot, but wouldn't have given it a Golden Globe.
I like history, documentaries, historical dramas, and I have an interest in the royals. So naturally I thought it was interesting because they showed up close and personal what things were like for the royal family before and after Queen Elizabeth got the crown. I've seen documentaries and videos of them, but it added something to see the actors breathe life into the situations.
It gives an idea of the life of a Queen, her education, what all their daily lives were like, what happened around the preventing of Princess Margaret from marrying Townsend, etc. Very interesting. But not exciting, if that's your thing.
This series has the blessing of the royal family, which is highly unusual. To what extent they cooperated, if any, I don't know. It's cleaned up, of course. It doesn't go into detail about Prince Phillip's escapades with other women and such. It's just alluded to, and some drinking and partying shown. -

I didn't feel intrigues by the first two episodes and was a bit bored, but I really started enjoying the series after that. Upon rewatch episode 1 and 2 also gave some valuable context for the rest of the series. I really like the first season and will look forward to the next one.
I definitely learned a few new things about British history and had loads of new topics to explor on wikipedia. -

Exactly the same here, but I thought it started picking up on episode 3 and I am quite enjoying it now. I normally like period dramas especially involving our royals, but I thought maybe I'm not really enjoying the first couple of episodes because I already know that time period fairly well.
I have to say though, there are a lot better period dramas, I don't think this is exactly the most gripping time period of British Royal Family history, mainly because the Queen herself has been a little well let's just say dull, God bless her!
If they get as far as Charles and Diana, plus Andrew and Fergie, that should make for some popcorn inducing television! -

Have you guys seen The Man in the High Castle? Halfway through the first episode and WOWWWW IT HAS ME INTRIGUED TO NO END. The polar opposite of the stagnant Crown.
You obviously like simplistic paint by numbers stories with simple one dimensional characters (and given your posts I can see that I am right).
I stopped watching MIC after episode 6. It's boring and predictable. Just another tiresome film about a resistance group taking down the evil Nazi's. It's been a million times before. And if not the Nazi's it's taking on the communist Russians. It's a story that has been played out in every 80's drama about the Soviets. With America being the pre communist era Eastern Europe and the Nazi's are the Russians.
There was absolutely no attempt to concretely imagine what the US would be like under Nazi rule. Especially given the race relations and treatment of Blacks and POC at the time.
Stick to watch UFC that also might be up your alley.

I absolutely hate UFC. I'd rather watch something artistic and beautiful like figure skating. Also what makes you think I don't like complex stories? I do have a microbiology and virology degree so I would assume I am not as dumb as you think I am. I'm definitely not the smartest but I would assume my IQ is high enough to understand and appreciate a good story.

It took me about 4 episodes to really get into it. The fog episode in particular clinched it. Also, the actress who plays her sister, Vanessa Kirby - what a stunner! Spunky and endearing all in equal measure.
It's important to mention also that I have zero interest in the monarchy. -

Honest answer? Not really.
If you liked Downton Abbey, you will probably like this. If it's boring, it's because you don't find it interesting. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
I binged all 10 episodes because I had the time, not because I thought it was mind-blowing. It plodded along and I got through it. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best of 2016 in my opinion. Westworld and even This Is Us was better to me. -

I thought I'd be bored senseless because I'm not a fan of that family, but wanted to check the pilot to see why it cost so much. I loved it which surprised the hell out of me, and it completely changed my mind on them, but if you're bored before the pilot even finishes it's probably just not your thing. Have you seen The Night Of? That's also stunning, and I found it gripping.

To me the best episode was "Knowledge is Power" 'Potentia Scientia Est. Oh my goodness. If you weren't blown away by Claire Foy in that episode, then you'll never see what the Golden globes saw. But Star Wars or Guardians of the Galaxy is an option for you.

Some of the episodes center on her life and sister's. Read over the synopsis of the episodes at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crown_(TV_series)#Episodes
and pick out the ones you feel are closer to what you're looking for. The episodes are not in chronological order as they happened in real life. -

Yes. I was mixed for the first episode save the points you mentioned. However, the second and third episode nailed had me hooked. If you get through the second episode and still aren't into it then it probably isn't for you. But yeah, the first episode is a little slow.

This is an exceptionally good series. Brilliantly cast, intelligently scripted, understated acting and such detailed beautiful costumes and sets. On top of all this it's a real depiction about actual events and the machinations between historical figures. This gives the series more gravity than anything else on the box.
My wife and I loved the series and are aching for the second to become available. Well done Netflix.
