Similarly, why make Final Reckoning a bloated 3 hour mess when you saw how badly that formula failed with Dead Reckoning? In both cases they started shooting without a finished script

Movie was dumb. Tom Schnooze fighting Henry Anvill for a detonator that the bad guy coulda just dropped off the edge of the cliff instead. They shoulda stopped after the first one. But Tom needs more money to fund the expansion of his cult churches.
