It's where the dad says to the black boyfriend or victim, "I would have voted for Obama again if I could have."
Why is that line controversial?
Hearing it and not knowing what is coming up, shouldn't that be a good thing that he is showing he is not racist?
Or is it considered racist because he is making a point to bring it up to a black guy and trying to impress him?

That cult wasn't even racist. It was a sense of awe and jealousy felt about black people. They wanted to become a black person. They were very selective too.

Yes. The movie wasn't that complicated at all.
It's a white supremacist cult that kidnaps black people in order to exploit the black person's perceived talents. I have no idea what special talent the black house worker was supposed to have. Being a clean freak?
