Is Scorsese mentally ill?

The film is brilliant. One of Scorsese 's best. Possibly even his greatest achievement. I can't say enough about the film.
Masterpiece. It moved me to tears.

I can't really comment having not seen the film. I dismissed it due to what I perceive as his Catholic anguish he tends to portray within some of his films. It looks self-indulgent.

Well I must confess, it's a love letter to the Christian Faith.
So you most assuredly will not like it.

I can be open minded and Japanese culture can be fascinating.
The Christian faith, especially Catholicism, can leave a lot to be desired. It is a cult and quite a dark faith at that, which is a diabolical paradox considering what it is supposed to represent.

Well. As I have told you many times in the past. I was raised in the Catholic Church.
But my Christian Faith required more. So for over a decade I just say to all that ask, I am a born again Christian.
Which is me saying I have my own issues with the Catholic Church. But never has my faith ever been in doubt. I did take Communion yesterday.
I do volunteer work at a hospice for people dying of Cancer. The Sister asked me if I wanted to take the sacrament. Of course I said yes.
Because I would never refuse the body of Christ. Amen

You haven't told me anything. Do you think that you are that important that posters would recall random parts of your life that rarely discuss with you?
You must be anguished and racked with guilt like Scorsese. Birds of a feather flock together.

Oh well.
Everybody's a critic and can't win 'em all!
I like Shutter Island though as impossible of a scenario that would have been to set all that up.

Taste in film is all subjective.
Shutter Island isn't even an original scenario film, it was filmed by William Peter Blatty in 1980 called
Twinkle Twinkle Killer Kane
aka
The Ninth Configuration
with Stacy Keach. Scorsese makes the film a bit too bombastic.

I don't know anything about Killers and am not sure if I would like it since I think it has to do with some racist violence towards Amer. Indians.
Is that what it's about?

I haven't seen it, but it is about white man exploitation of wealthy Indians. It just looks a bit too superficial, almost
Heaven's Gate
feel in style, which was avoided and despised by many, even if they hadn't seen it.

H. Gate was a bomb.
Right?
Animals were actually harmed or killed in the making of the movie, horses I think, so that is one reason why I avoid it.
Otherwise I would at least start to watch it to see if it is as bad as they say.

HG pretty much bankrupted studio United Artists. Director Michael Cimino was given free reign to do whatever he wanted after the success of
The Deer Hunter
. He became his own, and others, worst enemy. I haven't seen HG either. It looks dull and dreary and yes, apparently it contained some real animal cruelty.
I don't know the audience that Cimino was aiming for either. He had a solid cast, just no names on the marquee that made the public want to stand up and see his film and the reality western time period wasn't that appealing either to many.
Kevin Costner was able to make the majestic
Dances With Wolves
work 10yrs later due to his presence in the film, plus the film was superb too.
