I was confused by Butler’s accent in this, and it was only when they talked about the kilt that I realised he was meant to be Scottish.
I googled and apparently he’s lived in the US so long he’s developed a bit of an American twinge.

I am going to defend him on this. We have lots of Scots and Irush who move to North America in their 20s. After a few decades, a Scottish accent here often sounds like his did in that movie.

No, I understand that. I have an auntie and uncle who moved to America 30 years ago and sound barely Scottish now.
They’re massive Republicans and Fox News gets played all day on their TV. You’d love them haha!

My dad loved my mom's British accent from when she learned English as a second language (well, third.) However, she wanted accent reduction and already lost a lot of it.

When I went to Prague last year I was speaking to a girl at a bar who was Czech born and spent 4 years in Liverpool studying. When she spoke English she had an extremely strong scouse (Liverpool) accent. Was so bizarre

I know, I hate when people speak English with no accent. Sometimes Asians do, like especially Asians who are most American.
Here in the US, each region seems to have a different accent world or something. That's what's nice about being 1/2 American if I live in America? with some more recent heritage from Ireland.

How come you have such a vested interest in ethnicity?
You should focus your time on tangible, positive things like your musical instruments, studying, job opportunities etc.
Lol worrying about your ethnicity ain’t gonna achieve anything, honey

My father-in-law moved to Canada from Glasgow in his early 40s, never lost his thick working class Glaswegian accent, same neighborhood as Sean Connery. My motherInlaw in contrast moved here from Cork in her twenties and has a very soft Oyrish accent except around her family.
Oh I know the type you describe. There are immigrants who can't wait to go supernative.

I just watched this the other day. I was kind of annoyed that we didn't get to see
life in the shelter. They're just like, "That was a tough 9 months underground." I wanted to see how they lived those 9 months. I'm not surprised we didn't get to see how they start rebuilding either; the movie 2012 ended the same way. Most movies like this probably do.
They also had the stereotypical, "everyone around the main characters is getting killed/injured, but there's no suspense, because you know the main characters won't get hit" (2012, War of the Worlds, etc.) The next movie like this should just let the main characters get hit, and then the movie can continue following other characters instead. That would surprise people.

I liked this one a lot. I give this movie a lot of credit for refreshingly eschewing the expected grand scale mondo destructo spectacle in favor of focusing on a much more thoughtful and touchingly intimate human element instead. 7 out of 10 from me.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
