Ginsburg ruined her entire legacy with her selfishness

There were so many people this past weekend talking about how great Ruth Bader Ginsburg was and all of the great thing she did for women. I don't know the full extent of her accomplishments, but I do know that none of it matters now. She could have retired in 2009 in her late 70s when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and Obama would have been able to appoint the replacement. Instead she stayed on and chooses to die when Donald Trump is president. Good job. Thanks to your selfishness, conservatives will have the Supreme Court for the next 20 years or more. Corporations and the rich will get more powerful, women's and minority rights will be trampled, and democracy will be further eroded. That is the Ginsburg legacy.

— 5 years ago(September 21, 2020 02:18 PM)She clearly didn’t ruin her legacy because she’s being celebrated everywhere with plans to build monuments in her name. Only a small minority of people are complaining about her not stepping down during Obama’s presidency (and she should have). She’s done enough positive in her career to overshadow that.
Everything you’re describing above is Trump’s legacy, not Ginsburg’s legacy . Amazing how a woman after her death is still being blamed for the negative actions of a man.

They are saying good things now because they say good things whenever anyone dies. They will say good things when Trump dies as well. It doesn't change reality. The greatest impact of her life won't be her judicial record, it is her not stepping down when she should have. She was in her late 70s and in very ill health, and she made the irresponsible decision to stay on into her late 80s. Now we will have a generation of a conservative rulings on the Supreme Court. If and when abortion goes away, it's because of Ginsburg. That is what she will be remembered for.

— 5 years ago(September 22, 2020 01:31 PM)Hindsight is 2020. If she didn’t die and ended up retiring in 2021 no one would be claiming her refusal to retire earlier as her , “legacy.” The only legacy being highlighted now is the unrepentant hypocrisy of the Republican Party. They demanded no court appointments in an election year 4 ago and are now trying to jam a judge in the court in an election year. Nobody can blame that on Ginsburg.
And she was being celebrated her entire career before she died so don’t pretend it just started a week ago.
