Online? It's looking grimmer and grimmer as social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube purge their sites of politically troublesome accounts and content, ensuring us that there will be less free speech online. Even Reddit banned its biggest pro-Trump forum recently.
IRL? No. Thankfully, we still have the Bill of Rights and we're still allowed to have incorrect opinions/ideas and it's not illegal (yet) to express those opinions in most situations. It's the private sector that's clamping down on free speech more so than the government. Notice all the corporations that are donating money to causes like BLM. In fact, I don't know of any CEO who's speaking out against the BLM protests or statues being removed from public places or our history being erased. The major corporations and capitalist class are in bed with the rioters and "revolutionaries", probably hoping to co-opt their movement. Troublesome? Yes, but I never trusted those scumbags anyway and I've always railed against capitalism because I foresaw something like this happening and now it's coming to fruition. -

The police are probably violent because the job is one of the hardest in the world to do right. Maybe Iโm wrong. Letโs say the numbers youโre eluding to, with respect to police and domestic violence, are genuine and to be taken at face value. Itโs better to have a police force with some level of accountability than groups of citizens (ie armed thugs) roaming the streets and enforcing their own โmight makes rightโ laws wherein only the strong get to say what is right or wrong.
Defunding the police is a bad idea. They need more funding because their training is lackluster. Train them in conflict resolution and give them proper combat training so they donโt resort to patently dangerous tactics like leaning on peoples necks. Increase accountability and oversight. But do not make their jobs harder, which willl just make the police more desperate and poorly behaved

The purpose of protests is to make people uncomfortable so government makes the seismic changes they are asking for. You want protests quiet and calm so you can ignore them.
The police donโt need MORE money. Their training is proving ineffective because of itโs quality and not itโs funding. They need the exorbitant funds they already have divested to services where itโs actually needed, like hmmmm Education. No country has a more unnecessarily militarized police force than the U.S. And increasing accountability doesnโt help when the lack of accountability is starting from the top and pervading every level of departments down to the lowest level.
