I knew the BLM/ALM divide was going to get heated

β 5 years ago(June 06, 2020 07:03 PM)Privilege runs way deeper than wealth. Privilege is the fact that I can walk out of my house and have multiple friendly interactions with police officers in my white neighborhood and not worry about getting suspected of a crime or killed over the color of my skin. Privilege is the fact that I can get better healthcare and access to better resources and jobs for being white. The fact that Black women are maligned for their skin color and Iβm not. Itβs bigger than economic privilege.
This movementβs purpose is not to highlight all the minorities, itβs highlighting the injustices of the most marginalized group and their attention is focused as such. White people should not be telling black people how to protest or what to be infuriated by.
And this issue is more than just a fraction of cops, itβs a systematic issue in the entire country. Cops cover for each other standing behind this inane βcodeβ and enable each other to murder black people and get off scot free. It needs to end.

β 5 years ago(June 06, 2020 07:25 PM)White people Denying privilege is why it continues to be an issue , first and foremost.
Nobody is blaming all cops, were blaming the corrupt system that enables them to continually murder black Americans and not be held accountable for it. I donβt advocate for any looting or property destruction.
You do realize there are white supremacist groups and agent provocateurs out there doing a lot of the destruction to discredit the peaceful protesters , right? Letβs acknowledge that before we go any further. The looting stuff has nothing to do with the people Peacefully protesting.
I donβt know how more βrealβ , you want it to get than this. Black people have never stopped protesting Injustices and the injustices have never stopped. Recent events were a catalyst for more widespread awareness and now more people are on board with the movement. But you canβt act like people just randomly started to care about racism.
How many people have to die for you to understand thereβs a widespread police brutality issue in this country? Are you advocating for the cops and not the demographic that is constantly being murdered?

I have to wonder if the ALM crew took offense to the pro-LGBT movements following the
Pulse
nightclub shooting and felt the need to remind people that 'heterosexuals also die in mass shootings; don't
their
lives matter?'
Everyone's life matters. Nobody is denying that. It's nice that you believe so, but right now we're focusing on an issue that chiefly affects black Americans. I didn't see them protesting that homeless citizens matter when the outrage over immigrant children being locked in cages and left to die broke out.
It doesn't bode well that they only take issue with helping specific marginalised groups when that marginalised group is black Americans.

Trans people are very discriminated against and the women often resort to prostitution to survive, which is dangerous, and they can and do end up getting killed

Again, we're dealing with police brutality against black people here. The "what about me" attitude people have is disgusting. "What about Hispanics? What about Asians?" Nobody is denying that other people face other forms of discrimination. Of course they do. What's most pressing
right now
after the death of a black man, which occurred right on the heels of the lynching of another black man and the shooting of an innocent black woman, is the acknowledgment of the discrimination black people face at the hands of the police. I didn't see you piping up with a "what about Native Americans" argument when people were challenging ICE. What is it about black people that makes your mouth foam? Why can't they have the spotlight for just a moment?
