I knew the BLM/ALM divide was going to get heated

Trans people are very discriminated against and the women often resort to prostitution to survive, which is dangerous, and they can and do end up getting killed

Again, we're dealing with police brutality against black people here. The "what about me" attitude people have is disgusting. "What about Hispanics? What about Asians?" Nobody is denying that other people face other forms of discrimination. Of course they do. What's most pressing
right now
after the death of a black man, which occurred right on the heels of the lynching of another black man and the shooting of an innocent black woman, is the acknowledgment of the discrimination black people face at the hands of the police. I didn't see you piping up with a "what about Native Americans" argument when people were challenging ICE. What is it about black people that makes your mouth foam? Why can't they have the spotlight for just a moment?

Face reality. Racism towards black people will not stop with the cops.
Fair point; you're right. Let's all just stop addressing the issue. Why even bother? Racists gonna racist, right?
Where is your outrage when posters here are being called the N word?
Anna, I read a good 10% of the stuff that gets posted on this board. I can't recall in my ten years of on/off posting in these places ever having read someone call another person the 'n' word.
I'm out actually going to these protests. I went to the Pulse vigils. I went to George Floyd solidarity marches. I participated in the Florida chapter of the March for Our Lives. What I do to help the cause goes beyond calling out meanies on a message board. What I do to help the cause goes beyond telling people trying to make a difference to "face reality."
Your complacency with the system is disheartening.

— 5 years ago(June 06, 2020 10:43 PM)I don’t understand how one issue invalidates concern for the other. People need to stop using that word and people also have every right to be infuriated by the state of police behavior and police brutality in the country.
How many more ancillary issues are going to get brought to deflect from the topic? And the “whataboutism” responses only come out when the victims are black. Cmon.

Were were you all's outrage when I could of used support? […] We are all of a sudden supposed to believe you care so much when you can not even stand up to bullies on a damn movie forum?
That's exactly what I'm talking about: "What about me?" In what way, shape, or form is your inability to log off when people are being rude to you equivalent to black people being murdered by law enforcement? Get over yourself.

No, Anna, you didn't hit a nerve. Nothing hits a nerve on this board. That's sort of the point I was making when I called out your ridiculous claim that black people being murdered for nothing is in any way related to "bullies" on a message board. You aren't standing up to bullies by feeding forum trolls. Attention is what they want. Ignoring them is the way to go. I don't often click on threads that look like they're going to be an insult-fest, so seeing those sorts of interactions is easy to avoid. People here can stick up for themselves. Marginalised groups in real life can't fix the system by themselves. Perhaps you would know that if you learned to separate the board from reality. If you want to make a difference, stop fighting strangers on the Internet, register to vote, and participate in peaceful protests. Go to town meetings. It doesn't take much, but it certainly takes more than getting into board fights with people who are just trying to mess with you. You have to pick your battles.
