I have all of Stephen King's books. I think I like his earlier stuff best, but most of his stories hook my interest like no other writer does. I know that writing short stories is meant to be more difficult than creating full novels, but King is an expert at it. The four that you mentioned are my favorites too.

TV series disappointed me. For example that story They got a hell of a band should have been portrayed as that movie was, From Dusk till Dawn.
Instead they showed a town that was too green and hilly instead of desert landscape it supposed to be was in that doggone bookit.

It's also possible someone close to him wrote the letter, maybe his sister. If he really is OK, he needs to make an appearance that can be verified.
