Surprisingly enough, that's rather logical, but way too late, little buddy.
PS When did we graduate from "Yankees" to "Gringos"?
MAGA! FAFO!
Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't.

Gringos do change their country name Lara
The United States is Estados Unidos in Spanish, the UK is Reino Unido, Germany is Alemania, Romania is Rumania and Holland is Holanda.
There are Portuguese names for each of these countries too.
Unless you are misunderstanding what gringo means Lara in which case I can understand and forgive you for that.
You had best be careful though because you are about to glimpse into casual racism (From the eyes of the "West").

Gringos generally refers to any white English speaking peoples. The stereotypical blonde hair associated with ties into the Aryan ideal and so non-English speaking white blondes get labelled with it too.
It can also just mean a dirty scoundrel from abroad or as a cheeky way of saying friend.
"Me negro" is another way of saying my friend but that is open to both white and black people
