It's one instance of many that we never get to hear about because people (society) are more interested in seeing the drama of one-way of brutality, and going out of their way to avoid ever presenting the situations, however frequent or infrequent they may be, of legally armed civilians or guards saving people's lives. Those don't make the highlight reel.
I'm not bringing this up to unleash a debate in either direction, but simply to point out that there are situations like this occurring but no one hears about them because they're too busy hearing about the crazy gunmen…not the good citizens or individuals who care enough to even put their own lives on the line to stop a crazed attacker, people who aren't being paid to intervene, people who aren't being paid to try and help.

Why should we worship this guard who murdered a man? There should have been a trial, he took to law into his own hands for fame. You’re glorifying this scumbag which sets a bad example, the last thing we need are vigilantes running around and killing folks….shame on you.

I never used the word "worship."
That being said, your preference would have been no one being able or willing to intervene and the crazy mad-man with the gun to just keep killing innocent church-goers who were minding their own business.
The fact that this guy was in a position to intervene and was willing to do so saved lives.

I was required to take classes before being allowed to get my permit. One thing they teach you right out of the gate is shoot at the centre of mass. We're not snipers with rifles with optics and spotters. To have the best chance of taking a thread out, centre of mass is the best chance we have. Aiming for a leg or arm that's moving, chances are extremely high you'll not only miss your shot, but then alert the gunman and you'll be the one getting killed. The goal is reduce the risk. A nutter with a gun opening fire in a church is a threat.
Imagine if no one was there who could do what was done? How many more dead bodies would have been found in that church?

Lep, I believe it's your fate to be killed in a gun-free zone, respected by all those good guys with guns. Or would you rather live with a vigilante there to defend you?

You do realize that these “good guy” vigilantes might one day lose their jobs or get divorced, thus setting them off and becoming shooters themselves? It’s a never ending cycle and it needs to stop.
