Nope. It gives me anxiety. The beats are off, like half a beat too slow and I feel anxiety, like it needs to pick up a bit. Kind of like it's dragging.

, btw? It's used in the beginning. I love that movie.

Oooffff….you should! It's actually a great Nicolas Cage movie. The director, Panos Cosmatos, does really trippy movies. His previous one
            Beyond the Black Rainbow
was quite slow and weird. Lots of symbolism.
            Mandy
            was just great.
I think you'd like it. But it does open with
            Starless

Oh hell yeah! Now this is definitely right up my alley. WOW! I sincerely never thought Cage had this in him. Dang. I have SO got to find this movie now. Oooh, thank you for this!

I respect them, but I'm more of a fan of bands that they influenced. I went through my prog phase in 2014/2015, and only a few of the bands that I listened to remained on heavy rotation. I'm more into bands like Failure, the Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Rapeman, Faith No More, Jimmy Hendrix, Tides From Nebula, Gojira, Melvins, Radiohead, Russian Circles, Mastodon, Lo!, YLVA, Amenra, Cult of Luna, Girl Band, Tricot, The Doors, Tool, King Gizzard, QOTSA, Daughters, Death Grips, Primus, and Ellen Loo these days.
Gojira, King Gizzard, Tool and Mastodon are pretty good as far as progressive rock/metal of today goes.
If you like instrumental prog music with synths and thick distorted bass guitars, Tides From Nebula's From Voodoo to Zen came out last year and was probably my album of the year.

Of your list, I love Faith No More, Gojira, Melvins, Radiohead, Russian Circles, Mastodon, Cult of Luna, The Doors, Tool, QOTSA, Daughters, and Primus.
Seen most of them live, too.
I like Jimmi Hendrix too but haven't listened to him in some time.
I'll check out that album you mentioned. Thanks!
Of the old prog rock I listen to quite a lot of it as I am a record collector and I like some of the obscure stuff I find.

Great stuff. Of the bands you mentioned, I've only seen Gojira, Mastodon and Primus live. I'll be seeing Tool next month. I have to get around to the others (that are still around, of course).
Since you like Cult of Luna and Tool, you'll likely enjoy Amenra and YLVA.
the Jesus Lizard, Girl Band and Rapeman would be worth listening to since you like Daughters, as well.

I'll check Amenra and YLVA out! I've heard The Jesus Lizard before, but they didn't really grab me at the time. I might be more into that sort of thing now. Taste develops over time.
My favourite psychedelic prog rock band is Motorpsycho. I adore them!
I discovered Daughters by keeping tabs on Ipecac Recordings (Mike Patton's label). Missed them when they played here recently.

                              I'll look into Motorpsycho.
Ipecac is a great label for discovering bands. I also keep an eye out for anything Steve Albini worked on as producer/mixer/engineer.

They're a very active band. The vocals might take some getting used to and their albums gets more and more progressive.

They sound like a band I'd have to spend more time with. Perhaps more of an "album" band than a "song" one, as a lot of prog bands are. I'm starting with Heavy Metal Fruit, any major recommendations for albums?

                                    , but

is a good place to start.
They write ridiculously good melodies, in my opinion.
