It's sort of a puzzler of a comment, but I think one interpretation kind of plays into the Freud comment you posted. Essentially life is a hard struggle, but you should embrace struggle. Even if you fail in certain endeavors, that shouldn't keep you from striving onward - even taking on ever more difficult challenges.
